Default Swapping overhead trip computers

Hi all! New to the site, but not new to Dodge trucks, but I am picking up the first Gen3 ram I've ever owned. My last two Dodge trucks have been Dakotas and my last Ram was a 1984 Ram about 15 years ago. Anywho, I will be picking up my new to me 2002 Ram Sport QC either tomorrow or Friday (whenever they tell me it's ready) and I already want to start changing things.

One of the trucks I test drove when I was looking was a 2002 SLT+, really nice, loaded w/leather, and it had a much nice trip computer than I have in my truck. The 2003 and 2005 trucks I drove didn't have the upgraded computers either. Is it a 2002 only thing?

Since I will be hitting the local scrapyards looking for the upgraded computer, is there any other vehicle they used the same computer in? I'm assuming I would be able to swap it out of the overhead console and it's not all one piece.

I tried searching on the site here, but couldn't come up with anything.

Thanks!

they make 2 differnt ones. One has the built in garage door buttons, and you can program keyless, locks, lock patterns etc.

I dont know for sure how extensive it would be to swap to the fancier one, as far as running the extra wires etc.

By the way. Welcome to DF

Just from looking at the wiring diagrams, it looks like it just connects to the PCI bus to talk to the PCM and BCM, so I'm hoping it's going to just be a plug-n-play deal.

It is plug-n-play, it looks like the EVIC from a Jeep Liberty starting in 5601xxxxxx is compatible. Do not get one that says psi on it unless you intend to install the tire sensors in each wheel. The EVIC is much nicer and can do more than the OTIS that usually comes in Rams.

I found a bunch of info on this swap on another site, now I just have to try and track one down at the local yards. Guess I have a mission before the snow flies here.

You have 6 basic types: the OTIS with or without homelink, which looks like a calculator; the regular EVIC with or without homelink and the EVIC+PSI with or without homelink (has the TPMS).

What I am looking for is the EVIC with or without Homelink. I checked with my local dealer today with the P/N for the EVIC and it superceeds to the 2005 OTIS module, so just going to the dealer and laying down some cash isn't going to be an option here. So it's scavenger hunt time.

I have a 5601xxxxx EVIC with TPMS that I'm about to sell. I don't intend to use TP sensors and there's no way to disable it. Let me know if you are interested.

Does it continually give you a tire pressure error if you're not using the TPS system? I run two different sets of tires (winter/summer) and don't want to buy sensors for two sets of tires.
