Folks,
Like most of you have done, I have the cat back, CAI and SC tuner. I am figuring the best bang for the $$ to enhance street performance would be gears (4:10 w/31" tires) and a torque converter. For the money this should do the most to wake the old girl up.

you know for all than money sell the 05 buy a older one and a hemi crate engine and a good tranny if youre seriously looking for power. I have plans to do a swap on my 2nd gen when it dies. i haven't looked so about how much is "everything" everyone is talking about (i.e. cams, headers, CAI, full exhaust, possible bore/stroke). I think 440 from mopar is under 10k plus 1500 for an old 2nd gen that still runs good. thats alot more power than the what 30k it costs for a new truck plus upgrades.

They absolutely wake things up quite a bit, just remember though that they are not power adders, they are performance enhancers. Mods such as Gears, Torque Converters and E-Fans do not add any extra horse power to what you have now, instead they help to make the best out of it. The Torque Converter and E-Fan free up some of the 30% loss that you loose from the drive train (with a new converter alone you can free up 6-8% of that parasitic loss) and the gears will help how all that freed up power reacts when its put to the wheels. Both are excellent mods on their own, and are killer in a combination with each other.

Now best bang for your buck for a street truck, I dont know if I could call either of them that. You are looking at about a grand a pop for each of those mods if you cannot do them yourself (and trust me that converter would be a B*TCH to get off without access to a lift!!!). With that said, personally, the best "cheapest" mod for your buck after the basics (CAI, Tuner, Exhaust) would be a ported Throttle Body. They are a cheap ($237), easy to install mod that any shade tree mechanic can install in a few minutes and they work!!! They give the truck that much needed "pep" to its step and gives it a very nice quick throttle response for that off the line response that we all crave.

Now I am by no means saying that gears or a TC are bad mods and I would HIGHLY recommend either of the two if you have the $$$ to do them first, but if you dont want to spend that kind of money right now for them and want a great mod that will help out your performance a ported throttle body is the way to go.

Happy modding...

I would start of with a programmer. It will feel like a new truck with power where you want it and when you want it. Also a few more MPG's never hurt anyone! For those of you with 4.10 gears, what kind of RPM's are your running at 65 mph. I was debating on getting a set if I find a deal, but only if the increase is minimal.

I believe I have the 3.73 gears. I know they are not 4.10 and I believe the only other option for a megacab was 3.73. I can check the build sheet tonight and see.

If you know you do not have 4.10s in there then you have 3.73s, only other option on a mega.

Check with Ramhunter on his rpms, he's running with factory 4.10s in his magacab...
