Question Real Performance Mods.

Ok guys, ive got an 05 ram 1500 4x4 slt, I bought it in 2006 and havent changed anything. I want to know what mods to get to get the horsepower up around 400 or more without supercharging or nitrious. Im looking at magnaflow catback, and a cold air kit. What numbers can i realisticly expect from those two? or how about that throttle body spacer everyone on here has?

400 will require heavy modding like a Cam, Heads, Long tube headers and an Handheld tuner/programmer

A Catback will get you sound. A cold air kit will get you sound. And maybe a few extra HP. Like 5 max.
Handheld programmer such as Superchips and DiabloPredator will get you maybe 20hp. Certainly the best bang for your Buck compared to a CAI. Our trucks aren't starved for air. You'll see more off a tuner for nearly the same money if you buy an unlocked used one.

400 HP, if you are talking real 400 HP that you can see on a dyno (meaning at the rear wheels) good luck. Will require all that 'dog mentioned plus a custom tune.

I've got CAI, exhaust, e-fan, LT headers, tuner and a few other power mods and am just barely over 300 RWHP! I have a cam waiting to go in and am hoping with that and a custom tune getting to the 345 at the rear wheels that Dodge boasts my Hemi has at the crank. That's my goal. 400 RWHP is unreachable for me with what I'm willing to spend.
I'm afraid I'll need heads and a TC for that...

uh....yeah.

and with the POS transmissions (torque converter) in our trucks, we are lucky to see 240 HP at the rear wheels in stock form. 160 HP, N/A is a BIG hill to climb to see 400 RWHP... ROFL!!!

They are seeing 240-260 depending on the dyno. Still a far stretch from what is proclaimed...

Thumbs up

haha yeah, my truck was running like crap for a year, engine light going on and off, sputtering after startup, and stalling out driving around town under 40 mph, and after so much research on threads, forums and google; I finally decided to take a shot in the dark and change the egr valve. Now my truck runs like new!

To answer your question about realistic numbers from the mods you listed, on my 05' with a cat back, cai and a tuner i was getting right about 266rwhp. Opening up the cutout i had at the time upped it to 276rwhp ( check out my pics I should still have the dyno sheets posted). The parasitic loss on our trucks suck! From the crank to the wheels we loose damn near 30% of our power. Now since then i have done some fairly decent power mods that have upped the power quite nicely and i'd imagine i may be near or just over the 300rwhp mark. I also know guys that have done everything I've done so far plus a cam, pp heads and tune and are only in the upper 370rwhp range.
