Default tranny is a granny! help! please!

having some issues with my transmission. 5.9L 46re auto 4x4.
at low speeds in 2nd gear having bad surging problems, just putting around.
and 2-3 shift almost seems like its slipping at times and sometimes i have to let off the gas to get it to get in 3rd gear accelerating on the highway.
all other times it works and shifts fine, no slipping any other times and still has good get-up-and-go power. it doesnt seem to have these problems AS bad with O/D off

i adjusted the bands several months ago, havnt had any problems since now. just started a couple days ago. fluid looks good, and is at the proper level. no cel. im going to go check for soft codes now.

wondering if maybe i should adjust the bands again? or maybe try some lucas additive?
im kinda freaking out about it, i really cant afford a new tranny or a rebuild unless i did it myself. and i really dont want to do that.

any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you're trucks tranny is in what they call safe mode. I don't know if thats the correct term but it comes up on a google search.

My truck did this right before I found metal in the pan. Less serious issues can cause this.

also i forgot to add when i was under the truck checking for leaks and such, i found "CCC 8-24" written on the engine block in yellow grease marker. and noticed my computer has been previously re-flashed/updated from dealer. (this would have taken place before i purchased the truck)

My tourqe converter and some of the gears had shredded down to squat. Needed to be rebuilt. 2100 dollars.

IDK if the dealer would flash the thing to get the truck to drive right but that would make it drive right for a while.

That flash might very well be the "Death Flash" Common to 2nd gens, though I've never really heard about it in 3rd gen 2002 rams. All it was retard the timing to rob you of power so that the plenum gasket issue would be covered up. Now that I think of it, you should have had that direct from the factory as all 2001 rams did. NVM.

As for the tranny, you share the same one we do.

How does your fluid look? If it's dark and smells burnt, then you have about a $2,000 boo boo headed your way.

That band adjust might have been the culprit, but if you still have a check ball in the transmission cooling lines, then I would want to blame it as the problem. That ball usually gets gummed up with contaminants and when that happens it will stick shut stopping the fluid flow and then that's when parts start burning up.

Good luck, and come back when you check the condition of the fluid.

man, i had the 46 in my 97 ram. i finally got rid of it, something was always up with the tranny. one thing would get fixed then the od or something else would go wrong. you can rebuild them to be bulletproof from what i heard, but i traded in for my current 3rd gen. Basically, those trannies are doomed but u know that already.
