New mod is on!!!
How about...I have never welded With gas...lol
I must be the King of welding with Flux core. Been doin it for 10 years now. My welds are darn close to Hammers with flux core. Only thing is lots of splatter and black residue.
Much easier IMO to weld stainless with flux core than mild steel?
Maybe it's the welder.

Your welds look close to hammer's, but his aren't exactly great. I'm not saying flux core is bad, and is plenty sufficient for exhaust work, but gas is just so much nicer to work with, weld strength is higher, and looks better. prolly cheaper too after you spring for the bottle.
I wish I had spent more time with tig, welded aluminum looks so damn good.
Actually, I was pleased with the welds, considering I was at all kinds of stupid angles laying under there, and with this stupid chronic shoulder problem (thank goodness it's the left one) it was damn uncomfortable! I was impressed at how much easier it was to keep a nice smooth bead and how little splatter there was.
I really thought you guys were gonna get on my a$$ about the welds not looking perfect, so I tried to head it off at the pass with my "you try to lay under there" statement.
and 'Dog, as stated, although I've done tons with Mapp and Acetelyne, which of course is all gas, I've never used gas with a Mig before. I already found the kit for $60, now I'm looking for another "benefactor"... ROFL...
and 'John, those are not good welds..... They are **** retentive welds!!!
