Default 05 ram, installed steering wheel controls

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 CTD Sport that came factory without steering wheel controls and the am/fm/cd rbk stereo. I have since installed the am/fm/cd/cass raz stereo and even managed to get a leather wrapped steering wheel with the radio controls.

I have everything installed, the stereo works great and even works with my Ipod controller. But the steering wheel controls dont work. Is it true that the truck has to get flashed at the dealer for them to work? Ive looked and searched and from what I could find it was the 06 and up trucks that needed the flash.

Is there anything else im missing? Fuse/relay/harness?

Thanks for any help

Probably a different clockspring for trucks with vers trucks without, on top of the additional wiring harness to the stereo. There is a green Yellow/White & Black 2 wire connector in your behind your air bag. If it is there check for a 5 volt refrence signal on the grn/ylw wire with the ignition on but not started. That will tell you if your getting power thru the clock spring to the switches.

Bingo. There were probably 2 prongs missing in your stock clockspring that are for the controls. Once you replace it you should be GTG.

I have the pins on my clock spring. There is no difference regaurding the clockspring as to what model truck you have.

All the info I could find was for 06 and up and they say the truck needs to be flashed

Spike, Is the ref voltage there? everything I have read, for the 05 models don't have to be flashed and should work properly when the complete harness is wired up. Its not until 06 and up they started wiring the controls into the BCM and a flash was needed.

pulled the column apart to find there isnt a harness for the stering wheel controls. Oh well, the new radio is nice and the leather wheel isnt as cold as the plastic one in the winter

Man, I think even the manual lumbar on my drivers seat is controlled by the PCM. Everything runs thru that darn thing. No wonder they are so expensive!!!
