But you have to remember, the F-150 is the best selling truck because it allows people who want to tow a lot but don't want to be committed to a three quarter ton or one ton to get it done. Somebody like my dad used to work construction, so he will always have that construction mindset even though he isn't an official contractor anymore. When he was shopping for trucks he didn't care about 0-60, he wanted the toughest and strongest truck on the market, and the Ford did that. He liked the Dodge more than the Tundra (which surprised me) but he didn't like how towing wasn't its strong point. I agree that the Ford has some things I don't like, but my god, out of all the trucks I have test driven, the Ford definitely makes you feel like your in a truck. After driving his truck, I feel like my truck is a light weight.

I very much agree with this. Although manufacturers have to meet set regulations in towing performance these half tons and their 11k loads must just be meeting these standards where as something like a 3500 or 350 11k is a walk in the park. It all comes down to being safe and as far as I am concerned yo really cannot have too much truck for your trailer.

Exactly. No one serious about towing large loads is going to buy a 1/2 ton truck. That's probably why Dodge doesn't seem to care too much about the tow rating on their half ton truck. Most aren't even going to buy a gas motor but that's more likely than them buying a half ton.

For guys that want a half ton and just want to tow stuff like ATV's every once in a while or something like that the half tons tow them just fine.

Fellas, I really must beg to differ. There is a very big market for guys who want optimum towing capacity but DO NOT want to be driving around a three quarter or one ton as their daily driver. Again, I'll just refer to my father. He's a guy that grew up around construction, but now since we have ventured off into a different arena of business, he doesn't need to be driving around a one ton anymore. However, we do much of the construction related projects with the business we operate, and every three or four months we will tow a mini excavator from business site to business site. The Dodge would not be able to tow that excavator, and if it did, it would be sad. I know that I wouldn't want to tow a 7,000 pound excavator on a 2,000 pound trailer. My truck would more than likely snap into little pieces. The Ford, on the other hand, can do it no problems. The structural integrity of the fords is intense, much stronger than a half ton dodge. Not only does the Ford F-150 allow my dad to to have best in class towing capabilities, he doesn't have to show up as the owner of the company to his business sites or state meetings and get out of a tall, smelly diesel truck. The half ton market surpasses any of the other truck markets, so why not build a half ton that can be the most versatile? The Ford, although not fast, is the most versatile. It offers style, cab space, best in class towing and payload capacity, and isn't overpriced like the Tundra.

Difference between a 2500 and 1500 is pretty big, however a 2500 can easily be a daily driver. I have many friends that have the bigger trucks that are very happy to use them as daily drivers. I even kinda wish I had gotten a 2500 hemi. So May I ask what is so bad about 3/4 or even for that matter a 1 ton as a daily driver?

I think that anyone who EVER buys a 1/2 ton truck knowing full well they will be EVER have an occasion to tow more than its rating is crazy.

New rams ar at 9100lbs towing that is a lot. I am not sure I would want to haul 10,000lbs with a 1/2 ton even if it were a Ford?

you would if it were rated for it. what tells you 9100 lbs is a good number? the tow rating does. a decade ago you'd be scared to tow 8000 lbs, now 9 is ok but 10 isn't? well, ford says 11 is fine. so ford bumped it up a notch, someone was bound to.

fact is the ford is a better tow vehicle (i refer you to ANY and every review of the two new trucks out there, hammer's comparison, and the OPs opinion). there is certainly a market out there for a bad *** towing 1/2 ton. but, there is also a market for a truck with a hemi in it

like he said, some are better at some things, some are better at others. just how the free market works. it's good to see good competition between them, it'll drive them all to be better. you bet the others will be coming out with higher horse engines the next time around, and that the next ram 1500 will tow more.
