Today I test drove a 2010 Ram again because I just needed to feel it one more time. And once again, I was disappointed. I just felt like the improvements from the 3rd generation to the 4th generation are so minuscule; if anything, they look and feel weaker than my current 2005. I took it on a back road and I kept flooring it around 45 mph and it just wouldn't kick down to explode. Instead, it would just do this weird skipping in the transmission, this really bummed me out. There's just something I don't like about the new Rams, they just seem more like race trucks than an actual truck; like a toy. Honestly, if I sold my Ram, I'd have to buy a Ford. The Tundra is disgusting looking, the chevys are crammy in the interior and look like old men trucks, and the dodges aren't any kind of an upgrade from my current truck. I feel like dodge should have spent more time increasing the integrity of the frame and towing capabilities, but instead spent more time trying to make an already smooth riding Ram drive smoother, and didn't spend anytime increasing payload and towing capacity. In all honesty, I like the look and feel of my 3rd generation Ram infinitely over the new Ram....a thumbs down in my book.

how much do you tow with your truck now?
the 4th gen is sweet and the power is there just look at the stock track numbers. compare stock 3rd gen to 4th gen and the 4th gen is quicker.

i agree though that the ford is a nice truck. my friend just picked up a 2010 loaded xlt but still will take my truck over it

The max I tow is around 6,000 lbs. But the point about the towing and payload capacity is not so much about actual towing it. The reason I like high towing and payload numbers is because it means the truck has to be built strong to do those numbers. In my opinion, I correlate toughness and quality in the half ton market with those numbers. The Ford has to be one toughly built truck to be able to handle 11,200 pounds.

I agree. All trucks have there strong points. Like you said before, you want to go fast. You want speed or towing compacity, looks, interior, exterior, and numbers also, including egine and weight. When "They" make a truck with all essentials in it I will be very impressed and will not be able to fight the truck debate anymore.

I wonder how the 09/10 trannies stack up against the 08 and down. Still slush boxes, Sounds like they may be.

Yes, the transmissions are not anything spectacular. They do some bizarre thing when they shift; it sounds like the motor takes such deep breathes between shifts. And as I mentioned before, it was having a hell of a time kicking out of overdrive when I was flooring it, it just sat there doing this weird skipping thing with the transmission. Lastly, they bog A LOT. I am not a fan of 5 gear transmissions, I think they bog way too much. Besides fuel economy, is there a point to 5 gears? I feel like the 5 gears just confuses the motor too much with daily driving. Having two overdrives practically eliminates the purpose of tow/haul mode too, it will still bog. I liked in my 2nd generation Ram that when you took it out of overdrive, it wasn't going to bog unless you took it out of o/d going up a big hill with a heavy load.

Although the 3rd generation Ram doesn't have as much power as the newer Rams, I think they are a better truck for its respective year. When the Hemi came out on in '03, it was ahead of the times. Nobody offered a quad cab like dodge did, nor did anyone offer a 345 horsepower motor standard like Dodge did as well. Then of course the Tundra came out four years later, but up until that point, nobody had anything against the Hemi motor. This is why I'm disappointed with the new Ram, I think it's behind the times...it wasn't enough of an improvement from the 3rd generation Ram, I think the 02-08s are better trucks....and I like that they had leaf springs.
