Unusual Tire Wear
Ok, well I think at least some of you remember me posting about the new tires I got on my 3rd gen (Cooper Discoverer ATR's). Well my friend pointed out to me yesterday that my tread looks somewhat odd and very torn up on the side of the outside lugs. It looks almost like someone took a rasp too em. It's very uneven and jagged. I'll post pics later today. I do drive like a cop though, I take turns fairly fast and have done a couple donuts. I just wouldn't think that would have that much effect on the tires.
Donuts put a tremendous amount of pressure on the outside edge of a tire, as does taking hard turns. Could be an alignment issue, but if I were a bettin' man, I'd say if you stopped driving like a 16 year old on testosterone, your tires would wear better...
Lol ok Hammer I will do my best, I just wasn't sure if that was the reason why. I have to stop anyway I got a reckless driving ticket the other night so I can't be doing that anymore.
Sounds like alignment wear. Did you get the wheels aligned when you got new tires? Your driving style probably doesn't help. With severe driving, you need to have the aligment checked more frequently. or just keep buying tires
I didn't have the alignment checked but I'm going to get it done soon. Like I said my driving needs to change because of this ticket (which I am pissed at myself about it).
I think Hammer hit the nail on the head or you could keep driving like a "16yo". On the edge of your tires I bet the front of the tread block is more worn then the back and is probably caused by excessive body roll. It sounds to me like you're nose diving into the turns, remember "slow in, fast out". You can also help this by getting a stiffer sway bar up front and throwing one on the rear.

Yeah, check the PSI and easy up on the doughnuts and reckless driving, the last tires I had, the place put and extra 40 PSI in the tires and they were wearing down the middle....Tire pressure is something I should probably check more often
