Default Hella 500's keep blowing out

So i've had my hellas in my truck for a good 6 months now. I had the sulvania bulbs that came with the lights and switched them to some yellow bulbs after a month or so. The bulbs were what i that was cheap and blew out in about a week... I then purchased 2 silverstar bulbs from walmart at about $20 a piece. untill about 2 weeks ago the driver side blew out.. Now, if i'm not mistakin they should be lasting a lot longer then 3-4 months! I replaced the bulb with another $20 silverstar and now just 2 days ago my pasenger side is blown. Before i go drop another $20 on a bulb for them just to keep blowing, i'd like to figure out what the heck is going on. Anyone have this problem. Maybe i should run 35w instead of the 55w but it's a direct replacment as the stock bulbs. I don't touch them or anything so i don't have a clue whats going on...

How do you have it wired up? Did you run it too a fuse? You could be over powering the bulbs. Just a thought. Happen to me on my Jeep a few times.

Can't over power the bulbs. not possible

Sylvania bulbs suck. Silverstars are worse. Don't last at all

"some yellow bulbs" by whom? No namers are gonna last just as long as Silverstars.
H3 bulbs have a short life in comparison to other bulbs to begin with.

Check your grounds and make sure there are no shorts in any of your wires. The switch they give is very cheap if your using that may think of getting another.

Yeah i normally drive around with them on. I have it wired to switch which is directly to a 12v source . I never used their switch, i knew it was junk from the get go so i bought a decent toggle with better connections. All grounds check out a+. "some yellow bulbs" referring to bulbs i had purchased off of ebay for about $5. I knew the yellow H3's wouldn't last cause of how cheap but i wanted to see what my truck would look like with a yellow tint of light and my 6k HID's. As for silverstars i didn't know they were junk. Many people running them on here in there headlights (9006) and would swear their life on them being quality. Any suggestions on good bulbs? or am i just better off getting **** H3's and swapping them out everytime they blow.

I have put three sets of Hellas in friends trucks in the past two years (can't find a decent place for a set of my own with the winch up front). I've know none of those guys have lost a stock bulb to date.

As far as Sylvania bulbs go, it's all I've ever bought for twenty-some years. I won't swear to it, but I can't ever remember having to replace one. A quick check of Consumer Reports gives them about the top rating available in auto headlight bulbs. I think the guys who say "Sylvania Sucks" probably are the "HID" type guys who may be comparing a $20 per pair Sylvania bulb to a $100+ crazy bulb! Now I know there are some really high end bulbs out there that probably make the Sylvania's look sad in comparison, but in a regular "walk into a parts store with a $20 bill" set of bulbs, they are fine.

Kinda reminds me of the 23 year old the other day told me my truck looked nice, but my rims sucked, because "they weren't 22" or even spinners"... LMAO!!!

No Hammer. Let's talk Apples to Apples here.

My friend works in Aviation. Wanger is all they use. Gotta be a reason....???
Wagner is what most OEM manufacturers use. Gotta be a reason....???

I've purchased both and Sylvania's blow in no time and I'm a freak cleaning my bulbs everytime they come out.
Sylvania Silverstar bulb life is half regular Sylvania bulbs.
Sylvania bulbs just don't last that long compared to Wagners. They are not consistent in their lifespan either.
Don't get me wrong. i just replaced my Amber 3157's with Sylvania Silverstar Metallic one's...lol they look good but will only last a fraction of the oem bulb life.

Try these

Also, if you keep them running non-stop on a regular basis that will diminish the life of the bulb as well. heat is enemy and that tiny housing holds a lot of it.

Thumbs up

I'm using KC's behind the grille with their 130 watt bulb. KC's have a 23 year warranty on their bulbs - don't ask me why it seems insane; but they did replace one for me with no questions asked.
