N now, I have a "hide a key" hidden on my vehicle so when I do lock the keys in the truck, I can now save myself about $75 bucks from not having to call the locksmith. LOL. Key only cost me about $2.
good idea. where did you hide it?

yup, no chip FTW! saved $ on the remote start too. I got the two keys, two original fobs, and two fobs for my remote start that also opens the door. Most places I go have a spare key/fob that'll open my truck if I have a brain fart.

Yeah, my $1 key that will basically only get me in the Jeep is in my wallet, I'm never without it. Even though I have two full fobs/chipped keys for the truck, I should go have a $1 "get in the door" key made for it also.
I've got to goto Home Depot for pine today, building an xmas gift a couple special somebodies, and have to drive right by that Ace Hardware. I'll get the lowdown on their ability to make a new chipped key/fob with me only having one.
Like I said, I ain't disputing 'dog, but I made it clear to the key guy that I only had one and thought $60 was a great price considering what the dealer gets.
So we'll see this morning...

UPDATE: I stopped by Ace, actually needed to, because stupid Home Depot nor Lowes carry decorative spindle legs that are long enough for my next project unless you want pressure treated! Stupid, can't get a 36" spindles unless it's filled with all kinds of toxic sh*t!

Anyway, I had the Yeep key with me, and again this 19 year old, freckle faced girl plugged it into the fancy little black box hooked up to a computer and it went "green-green-green" so she says she can copy the chip to one of their Chrysler blanks - with only the one key of mine.
I ain't got the extra $60 with Xmas coming up, but intend to let them copy it after the holidays...

That's cool. I buy the non-remote chipped keys from a guy on eBay and the Walmart where the wife works, cuts them for free. This way I can drive with my spare for under $30.

I know my '07 does because the chip went bad and it wouldn't stay running. Fortunately, it was still under warranty, so i didn't have to pay for it, but dealer would have charged $250.

well i got the $25 key...no remote, just the key
and had it cut and programed for $45
so $70 is better than $200+

i tried to call the local ace stores they dont do any programing

note to self....go out and make another spare now

FYI.... not sure if everyone knows, but if you have 2 keys,
you can program a 3rd yourself, its in the manual....thanks for the tip dirtydog
