Default 2nd Gen VS 3rd Gen

Ok, I know I am probably going to get yelled at for not using the search option but I did and did not yield the results I wanted.

I am looking to get another truck. I currently have a 2000 1500 w/offroad package. I would like to get a newer 04-06ish 2500. I know that the 2nd gen have had there tranny issues and plenum gaskets. I am looking to know what I might be gettting into if I decide to get one of these trucks.

Thanks for your help in advance.

My 04 2500 has been fairly relaible. Other than going through front end parts (I travel through rough terrain on a daily basis for work) it has had no major issues. She is a pig on fuel though, but I don't expect it to be good when I'm hauling around 2000lbs in the bed at all times.

you might be getting into a little thing called heaven. i love the rams and have owned two 2nd gens and three 3rd gens. i think new ones are laid out better. i never had any problems with any of my trucks.

i love my 3rd gen 2500. only gripe i have is the stock 3.73 gears. other than that, its been fantastic. and when driving around town, or on the fwy with no load, i get similar gas mileage to a 1500.

If I coulda gone back that is the only thing I woulda wanted changed, To have gotten an 05 2500 with with a SFA. I think the 2005 is the perfect year, I generally don't like 03 and 04 inabillity to play with the tranny and the 06's+ MDS and looks.
