Default Metal on metal noise when 4wd is engaged

No matter if it's 4 wheel high or low when I move a loud metal clanking noise occurs. It is pretty high pitched and has been making me worry.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like your t case or front diff turned into metal hamburger. When was the last service performed?

Probably so, when I bought the truck I had an extra grand to get a head start on some routine but before I could get in to doing anything my tranny needed a rebuild.

from the looks of the rear diff fluid I would say never. I am so nervous about my truck right now. I just know something is around the corner. Money is an object.

I am brining this one back up because my diff turned out good. Waiting to do the T case.

I wanted to add that there is also a rattle noise coming from the front when at any speed. At highway speeds I can here it in cab.

any guess's. I thought maybe a CV joint or something.

if the sound is only when 4wd is engaged, then it's likely your T-case as your ftont diff is constantly spinning even in 2wd.

Rattle noise is not likely a CV but something else. Someone posted up the other day about the hood bumpers not keeping the hood solid and was causing a rattle. Something to check out.

Sometimes, from a complete stop it will make the same noise that it does when the 4wd is on. I only noticed this yesterday. I was hoping someone may have had the same problem(s). I keep thinking they are related because the tones are nearly the same.

I think I am going to let this thread die once and for all. Unless I can get like a video with sound or something.
