sand bags in a 4X4??
I have an 07 hemi qc 4X4 with cooper zeon tires and had a quick question. Do most of u guys use sand bags during the winter. Seems kind of silly using sand bags in a 4x4, but the back end is pretty light and slides all over the place in an inch or so of snow (especially with the hemi). Don't really want to engage 4wd all the time in just a dusting of snow, so thought a few sand bags would help a lot in 2wd, thoughts?
You got a heavy a$$ engine sitting over them front tires, no weight in the back. When I was a merechild growing up in upstate NY, my trucks were always 4x4s and I always put sand in the back in the winter... Was more than one time I had to bust a bag, most notably when ice fishing. Coming off the ice and up a steep bank is sometimes tough, even with a 4x4...
I run about 8-60lb sand tubes in mine. I have every winter since I got my truck, and have never had any trouble. I work almost 50 miles north into MI, in K-zoo, and drive some back roads getting there. I watched a guy being followed by a state trooper today in a 2500 ram going north while I was headed south on highway 131 catch some ice and spun it off into a farm field--no apparent damage. 50 mph winds and near white out conditions. Take your time!!!!

2wd or 4wd doesn't matter, you still need sand bags. I just built a wood box today and wrapped it in old towels to keep my bags from sliding around like last winter. It keeps them right over the axle. I have 240 lbs right now but might add more.
