Every once and awhile when I go to cold start my truck it will turn over a lot longer than usual before it will start up. About once a week I'll get a bad start. I'm just not sure what would cause this; for the most part it starts up right on cue but every now and then it will take an obnoxious amount of turning over to start her up. Any ideas?

 

This happens to my truck every once in awhile- when i go to start it and let go of the ignition just a second too early and it doesnt start, it will take a significantly longer time to roll over and fire up.

 

try turning your key on twice b4 startup click it on let it sit for a sec off then back on, and see if this helps, if so you might have a fuel pump going....thats how it happens on chevys....lmao

 

Mine does this in cold weather. Summer it turns over fine.

 

My truck has done this a total of 5 times in two years iunno what it could be hot or cold weather it still does it. not as frequently as yours tho...

Iunno about your trucks but mine has that easy start ignition, just turn a lil and let it go and starts right up.. And sometimers it takes about 3 seconds to start..

Any one have answers for this please share

 

My 03 does it every time it is a cold start. If anyone finds the solution, please post it up. I have tried many things so far with no results.

Sounds to me like it's more of a hemi engine thing now that it's clear it happens to a lot of people. My truck does this regardless of the temperature outside as well.

 

i have an 06 with only 34000 on it and it does the same thing except for its more like 5 times a week. i read a post on identifix on this issue and the problem was either the fuel pump or injectors that are leaking down.

 

o yea and mine starts right up the second time i try if i do let the key go to early, im 98% sure that this is a fuel issue

 

Well it would sure be easy enough to rule out fuel pump or injectors. Just hook a fuel pressure gauge up. Is the fuel pressure climbing to 50 psi? If so shut the vehicle off and make sure the fuel pressure doesn't drop more than 10 psi after a couple of minutes. If it does not climb to 50 psi is gonna be the fuel pump.

It's also a simple matter to remove the rails and cycle the key on and look at the injectors to see if they are bleeding down.

If it's neither, then you are probably looking at one weak plug or weak coil. Possibly a flaky plug wire as well...
