dont you have abs? i can stomp on the brakes and still turn because of the abs...
with a rear wheel drive when you start going sideways, LET OFF THE GAS! it will straighten right out! with front wheel drive, FLOOR IT!
remember, a skidding wheel always wants to lead.
on ice, drive easy, no quick movements. luckily our transmissions are pooches and make it easy to take it easy because they are almost always in too high of a gear and lugging the motor... which is good... on ice.

first rule of thumb is just let off the gas. no brake, no gas... just let the truck do its thing. if you were going to fast to begin with, and the rear kicks out, turn INTO the skid (making a right turn, rear skids left, turn the wheel LEFT). Hitting the brake right away will almost always lead to trouble unless your wheels are mostly in line with each other.

When in 4x4, the technique is really no different. Because this a rear wheel (or all wheel if in 4x4) drive truck, flooring it is NEVER a good solution. cheapbeaters comment about flooring it with a front wheel drive vehicle is only valid with front wheel drive only vehicles

Do everything about 10x sooner on ice and go 10x slower. I'm driving 60 miles a day in foot deep snow with ice underneath. No issues yet...
