Major Mods and reliability
I've been curious, for those that have done big stuff like headers, cam, heads, that type of thing. Have you been bit by the "you gotta pay if you play" scenario or is your truck still a reliable, problem free daily driver?
When I see guys that I've done those major mods I think, I'll bet that truck hauls butt, but also wonder how much trouble its been.

Most of my initial mods were done with the upgrading of known troublesome components in mind.
Auburn LSD and a suspension lift that replaced a good deal of front end components with bigger, beefier ones have doubtlessly contributed to the fact that I've never been stranded at the side of the road yet.
Some items, such as my headers require a little more maintenance than the stock component they replaced, but the performance far outweighs taking about 20 mins to check/torque the bolts at oil change time...

Nothing you listed will cause any premature engine failures. They just help the engine breathe better.
What will cause diminished engine life is getting a high revving cam and revvving the **** out of the motor all the time, which generaally limits the engine life span anyways. Otherwise, those all good mods that can be very reliable for years to come as long as the heads aren't too racey where they need a high revving cam and stall converter to run properly.
Just remember the higher rev the cam is, the narrower the power band and less power down low. Lower the cam rev, better across the board power and better low end power(least upper end hp)

I doubt I'll ever get into the major engine mods I was just curious though. I'm definately going to do the gears, lsd, and the Rancho 4". Headers seem like a good idea now, just don't know if I want to deal with more noise when towing my trailer.
When I first bought my truck I wasn't all that happy with it after driving it a couple weeks. But after a couple of rough hunting trips and driving it for five or six months I've started to really like it and I think I'll be hanging on to it for awhile.

Keep in mind my headlights are still being worked on, the LTs and true duals with that other DMH have to go on still, an efan is in the works, SCT custom tuning is being planned and eventually I feel as if I will get into that KRC 210x cam.
Wanna help fund some of those projects?
