The only bad thing is the Cooper comes in the OEM size, Which still leaves the truck looking a little goofy, but i do like them and it looks like the reviews say they have good tread life.

The cooper ltz is a great tire. I just had these installed a couple weeks ago and Im very happy with them.

 

If your driving in mud / snow with any frequency, I'd avoid the BFG A/T. For the money, they suck in the snow / mud. Let's clarify, I have a 2004 2500 quad cab - BFG A/T 265/70R17 Load Range E tires. My door panel reccomends 65 PSI front & 55 PSI rear. That makes for a bone jarring ride, and the tire does not self clean. I've been towed out of muddy yards with Jeeps before... That's embarrasing! I have 63K miles on it, and I've replaced the tires once. I used the same tires, cause I had 1 brand new. Not bad mileage, but offroad performance really sucks.

I'm also ready to replace mine, and I'll also look at some of the above tires, but 1 major question:

If I go from a load range E tire down to something with lower running pressure - what am I sacraficing? Also, how wide can I go on my stock rim? Hammer said above 12.5 on 8" rims is OK, but in the Jeep world that's a big NO NO! Anybody else go that wide???

 

Marty, you CAN run a 12.5" tire on a 17 x 8 rim. However, the problem you run into is if you get into the nasty stuff or are going off roading quite a bit where you have to air down or even a severe corner where the sidewall flex's too much, you run the possibility of having a bead bust. If you're in the middle of nowhere, that's the worst. If you're running 85 or 90% on road, you should have no problem. I was running a 32 x 12.5 x 15 on my old Ranger and never had a problem. BFG A/t's to me are overrated. That's the tire I ran on the Ranger and wet conditions and some good mud, they worked like s***. I'm pretty happy so far with the Nitto's I've got now. I have to agree on the Cooper Zeon LTZ's. They are a great tire and for the money you can't really find anything better IMO. I had BFG A/T's on my 03' 2500 and I never had a problem with them. Then again I only had them for 4-5 months before I sold the truck. BFG's are way too high priced and since then some newer tires hit the market. For what you are looking for I would suggest Toyo open Country A/T's or the Cooper Zeon LTZ's. I'm getting a set of Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/50/20's here shortly. I'm not crazy about having a bit shorter tire but I do want something a bit wider. They are a pretty aggresive tire too. They are much better than the crap Dodge throws on there from the factory. For $640 shipped I think the Coopers are a great buy!

 

I personally like my BFG a/t KO's but I'll admit I didn't even come with in a light year of paying full price for them. In last years snow storm up here in washington they did just fine on everything but ice, if you want ice traction you get a dedicated tire for that.
