Default 2002 Ram 1500 360 cu. Cool or Cold Starting Problem

When it is cool or cold out (first start of the day), my 1500 hesitates, almost stalls, and backfires thru the throttle body when I attempt to drive it. I am able to keep it running by pumping the gas pedal and it does this for a few seconds & then smoothes out & runs fine. It starts fine the rest of the day.

I have put on a new throttle body position sensor (TPS) and a PCV valve and several tanks of gas. I have had the throttle body & injectors cleaned out and tried a couple different gas additives.

I have concentrated on electrical (and still think this is the problem) but the pedal pumping to keep it running has thrown a monkey wrench in that thought process???

Any idea's out there?

Thanks much for any & all help.

sounds like it could be time for new cap+rotor+plugs+wires? the 5.9L doesnt like anything cept' copper core plugs, and makes sure your cap and rotor have brass contacts. the 5.9L will run terrible with platnium plugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
from what you explain though sound to me like it could be the pick-up coil.its a round sensor under the dist cap looks like a flat doughnut with a magnetic pick up on it.
also check the ignition coil for loose wires where the harness plugs into it. (also common)

oh and welcome to DF

I would check the fuel pressure when cold as well. Could be a lean condition.
