A curiosity thread........
Im pretty postive that my truck doesn't have the optional lsd from the factory. But playing around in 2wd today, I noticed 2 rooster-tails shooting out, whats this mean? Not neceassarily that I do have an lsd, I know, but just thought Id learn something new.
Also, I have a question about the Durango. (I know we have a D section, but thats pissing in the wind trying to get answers over there)
The Durango is the Limited, Hemi, AWD version. It has the same 4wd selector as my truck. Now, unless it has a locker in the rear, which I doubt it does (from the factory), whats the difference between the everyday AWD and the 4hi/lock option? I didnt feel in difference in performance/traction, but I got the usual 4wd lurching when turning.
Ive been kinda puzzled about this, maybe ya'll can learn me a thing or two
(edit) P.S. The D performed FAR better than the Ram did. I ended up digging out my truck yesterday for the hell of it, and it really surprised me. I know the tires have quite a bit to do with it, but both are straigh treads. I still love'r though

If both wheels were spinning at the same time, you have a LSD.
If i understand your question correctly, AWD is controlled by the computer. It only locks up the front when the rear is slipping. If you put it into 4wd, its always 4wd until you take it out.

Makes perfect sense, and kinda embarrassing that I asked actually, about the Durango. As far as the Ram goes, Ive never personally heard of a 4.7 Ram with the LSD option. Wouldnt that mean I have 3.92s also, as I thought they go hand in hand? I HIGHLY doubt that, hell, the truck doesnt even have a hitch!
Any other time Ive done a little brakestand/'smokeshow', its always been one-tire fire, so after I saw the driver-side rooster, confusion set in.
Either way, both trucks got me where I didnt need to be, and back. Once I get some new treads on the Ram, Im sure the lady's ride will be staying put

See, this is why I love (this) forums so much. I can learn something new every time I sign on. So I guess I would go about checking this......... how? Ive read I can look in the glove box, just not sure where. The owner's manuals aren't option-specific, meaning made for my truck specifically, so I doubt I can look there.
It doesn't really matter, like I said, I just like learning......
BTW Legend, or anyone else, do ya'll get the one-wheel peel with the factory LSD too? If not, and I do indeed have the lsd, its time for the ol' man to start digging pieces outta the diff I reckon....
Edit: I know I can check the gears by jacking up the rear and turning the tire one full turn while counting the turns on the driveshaft. Just thought I could check it on paper somewhere

My 08 4.7 has the 3.92 LSD in it. I made sure it had a LSD when I bought it.
Do remember that if both wheels can get power it will spin. My old jeep didn't have a locker or anything in both axles, but on snow and ice all four wheels would spin in 4wd.

keep on finding out new things, lol. I was under the impression that you couldnt get the LSD/3.92 option by itself, but it was part of the whole 'tow package'.
Thanks for all the info guys. I know the questions on here are becoming more and more redundant, thanks for still looking......

Nope it isn't. You had the axle option depending on the drive train. The 3.92 was the axle you got if you wanted a limited slip. The tow package was then a separate option.
I built alot of trucks online before buying my 08. lol

It was most common for Rams to be ordered with the tow package, 3.92s, and LSD, but they aren't mutually exclusive. I've seen Rams with 3.55s & tow package, but no LSD, with 3.92s and LSD but no tow package. Even if you have the factory LSD, you may still get the one-wheel peel. The stock LSD is so slack it locks up and works when it feels like it.
