Gears for 4x4's??

4.10 is a nice ratio, however 4.56's are better when running 35in tires though.

now that i have 4.56s, i kinda wish i woulda gone 4.88. 2wds can run 4.88s, 4wds cannot in the stock carrier.

For 35" tires and an automatic transmission with essentially two overdrives, you don't need to consider anything less than 4.56 gearing.

And technically you can do just the rear, but I'd recommend disconnecting the front driveshaft, cause if you even accidentally bump the thing into 4x4 mode, the flatbed man will have to go back to get your transfer case off the road AFTER he loads your truck up!!!

Wait till you've saved enough pennies up to do both if you have to, DO NOT just do the rear gears...

so should i do gears before the lift. and yes i do use 4x4 alot in the winter. or can i do the lift and run stock gears?

ideally gears before lift/tires. but stock gears with 35s isn't the end of the world. you'll still be able to get around find, will just feel sluggish.

IMO it depends on if those stock gears are 3.55 or 3.92s...

I have 35" tire on 17" wheel and 3.92 gears. It works very well, but i would love 4.56

I had only the rears done for about 2 months lol. Did the fronts a little bit ago with winter coming up.
