Question 08 Dodge RAM 1500, what would you recommend: mopar oem remote start or Viper 5901?

Hey guys I am new to these forums so my apologies if I am not posting this in the correct section.

I just bought a 2008 Dodge RAM 1500 Quad cab truck. I was interested in geting a remote start and I know I can get the dealer to install the OEM Mopar remote start system but this does not come with a car alarm. Would it be possible for someone to steal/hotwire the truck even if they don't have the key with the chip in it?

This leads me to my 2nd choice which is the Viper 5901 which comes with the remote start plus a car alarm. I noticed they have to do a lot of wire cutting, bypass module etc... so would that disable the use of the chip in the key? Would it still be possible to steal/hotwire the truck even though it has the car alarm in it too?

I would rather use the Mopar system because the key would have all the buttons in it but it lacks the alarm which I wouldn't mind if its not possible to steal the truck.

Any tips and feedback would be great on how the dodge truck works with the key/chip & aftermarket alarms if that disables the chip or not, thanks!

My 08 has keyless entry and no alarm system. I would personally go with the mopar system. That way its all on one remote. And really think about it, if they really want to steal your truck no alarm is gonna stop them.

I don't agree with that line of logic. Just because some punk kid wants to steal your truck, it doesn't mean he'll have the ability to bypass the remote start.

I do agree with the first part though. Definately go with the oem system. I hate the idea of carrying around an extra fob for the alarm.

Your right on that. But say its a truck like mine, all stock, and say a truck like yours, lotta mods. A thief will look at mine and pass since there are a million other ones out there, but yours has alot done it it already. A person that is looking to steal, not randomly walking up to it, will find a way to take it.
You may think Im thinking along "Gone in 60 Seconds" but Im not. Over the past couple years its happened 4 times in our county were specific trucks, trailers, and equipment were stolen. The trucks were not junkers either, they were some nice pickups.

Those are professional thieves though, and I agree you can't stop a pro. Most car thieves are just kids looking for a thrill and most alarms will stop them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they have some issues with the Viper system not installing properly too? I believe it was because of the chip in the key? They would have to take a chip and install it somewhere inside the truck for it to work?
