I use plastigauge all the time, I even use it to measure some of the metal work I have done. It works very well. The guy I am learning under has been a Master mechanic for a very long time and Use to re-build Racecar performance engines for a living. Before that he rebuilt helicopter engines. He is the one who actually tought me how to use plastigauge. Mind you, He also taught me to always double check my work with a micrometer also. However, Don't knock the plastigauge.
