Blew My Subwoofers
So about a month ago i bought a set of used subs. with a bassworx box and a pheonix gold amp.
they pounded amazingly for about a week untill i blew a fuse.
ive had problems ever since.
the bass was never as loud and then started sounding kinda weird.. yesterday they blew. if i press down on them they sound fine untill near the bottom and i can feel them crackle.
so pretty much i need some new subs. what should i buy?
also. do you guys think this could have been caused by my iTrip i use. it always causes the audio to sound staticy
and my deck doesnt have sub connections..

The static shouldn't affect it. Just make sure that you have good connections to your battery, amp, and ground. Also check the speaker connections. Loose connections can really screw stuff up. The other thing that might have happened is that the amp is too small to drive those speakers and then you turned it up more thinking you could get more. This would cause the amp to distort and will tear any speaker up in no time.
this is where i use to get my stuff from it is all refurbished but hey its cheap and comes with a warrenty for like 30 days they have kicker comps for like 55 bucks a sub http://www.caraudiodeals.com/

loud music means lots of distortion that will heat up and fry the voice coils. Just because you cannot hear the distortion doesn't mean it's not happeneing. Distortion turns into heat for the woofer which will cause failure. This is from excessive volume or a cheap amplifier that is turned up too much. Generally when tuning a system, you raise the HU gain to 80% of max volume and adjust from there. You should never go beyond 80% of the HU volume once adjusted. MOST HU past that amount incurr lots of harmonic distortion not heard by the human ear. When you can hear it..Your speakers will cry murder..We all know what that sounds like...crackle!
if you popped a fuse on your amp, there must be a reason why. it could have been because your subs were already the cause of the problem. never heard of bassworks? My guess is that they were causing OHM related issu'es that caused your amp fuse to pop.

I blew two Memphis subs, the first 48hrs I had them!!!! Brand new too. I contributed to the box I had, but as DD said, it was because I was throwing all kinds of "nasty" power to the subs. Not that my amp is necessarily 'cheap', but the installer (cousin of mine) said that when I crank the amp up like I was, it would actually send out around 1000watts (rated @600w), of distorted nasty power. Blew'em right up.
Type R's are your friend
I would say go with the 12's if you can. I like my 10's, but they're still not enough for me. I need more box though.
I saw a set of 12's on ebay, "new in the box", for $240, shipped I believe. Pretty good deal, the 10's sell for $200 each at Best Buy (got lucky and got mine for $100 a piece).
