Electric Cut Out
Just some questions regarding the cut outs.
1) Anyone have problems with the circular metal piece that closes and opens the cut out? When it's wet out has anyone experienced problems with opening or closing it.
2) Weld or clamp? Should I weld or clamp the cut out. My main fear of clamping is having a leak in the exhaust. Any input?

The only problem I ever had was when the gasket between the cutout motor and the y-pipe fell apart and got stuck in there. Other than that, never a problem. Mine is welded in at the moment but I will be cutting it off soon when I revamp my exhaust system, so I am wishing I had clamped it on.
I have not had any problems with mine from Raceland. mine is welded in but if you get the good clamps from Jegs I don't think you would have a problem. if you do a search there are many threads with pics of welded and clamped cutouts.

Mine too, have you tried something different than the gaskets that came with them?
My cutout is welded in place, but like Off_Road_Teacher said, eventually I am redoing my exhaust, and I’m going to have to cut off the pipe and re-weld it in place. As for the valve, I never had a problem, but I bought a little turn down exhaust tip that bolted on the cutout to keep the dirt, water, snow, etc. from possibly getting in and screwing something up. I know my friend had problems with the dirt and whatever road crap getting stuck in the valve, which made the plate stick, and he ended up frying the cutout motor. But that was in a STI, that was 3 inches off the ground, and he scraped it on speed bumps and driveways, too, which probably helped with breaking it.
