I know this goes the opposite way of the usual exhaust posts! It's getting to that time where I need to replace my exhuast. Unfortunately the stock exhaust muffler is nearly $300! I hate engine noise when I am driving and don't really want to attract the local police as they tend to be B@st@rds where I live. So can anyone here recommend a super quiet exhaust muffler that doesn't restrict the hell out of my motor and doesn't break the bank!

Thank you.

In your case, I would just go to a local exhaust shop and have them install a IMCO (or whatever brand that they carry) replacement muffler.
You don't have any specs on your truck listed.

02 5.9 (Magnum) slt, quad cab, long bed, 4x4. Stock engine with K&N air filter in stock air box.

I don't want a Pep Boy special on my truck as they strangle the engine and don't last.

I don't know of any muffler that is high flow and quiet. Typically the quieter the more restrictive.

I would definately go by some of the exhaust shops and try to get someone elses OEM muffler that the shop cut down to change out with something else.

That's an interesting idea! Unfortunately my truck is getting old so these exhausts are going to be rotten. I'm not sure if the later ones fit. I'm also looking for something a tad less restrictive. Thank you.

I like the internal layout of Thrush Turbo Mufflers. That layout is usually the best compromise between noise and performance anyone here have an idea of their build quality?

Look into the Walker Dynomax Turbo. They flow great and aren't very loud.

Thank you! Just the design I was looking for. Does anyone know what they are like for quality and longevity? I like their web site and the fact that you can hear the different mufflers on their test engine. I also like the way the Turbo mufflers are quiet at idle and part throttle (i.e. freeway driving conditions) and they're not to obnoxious at wot. Anyone else here use them?

I had a set on my Mustang years ago. Almost stock sounding at idle with a nice tone when opened up.
I have them on an old 77 F100 that the pipes have about rusted off of, but the mufflers are still in tact. They are very old!!
