Default Seeking Feedback: Superchips 3714

I just purchased a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 QC LB 4X4 with 87K miles that has a 2006 5.7L with 25K miles. Locally, I have found a used Superchips 3714 for sale for $100. The reason for the post is, I am seeking direct feedback on what your experience has been in using this specific programmer on this truck / engine. Right now I am getting ~10 mpg and would like to increase this if possible...thinking the Economy program may be a way of getting me closer? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

The "economy" tune never seems to have helped anyone, ever. Thats why you see no one using it. In some cases its mde things worst. But all you can do is try it. Be sure to calculate your mileage by hand and not on the OHD. I assume you are not deisel having a 5.7 and 10mpg but just wanted to make sure. Then again, if you look around, a 5.7 in a 2500 is a lot of weight to pull around. Thats why all the Megacab owners complain about thier mileage also. If that 2500 had a deisel in it you wouldnt have that issue and would be laughing at us instead or laughing with us.

I was told everything else was a 2003, and have confirmed the computer is 2003. In short, original owner cracked the 2003 5.7L block, and had a 2006 5.7L motor installed. Thanks for your continued support!

weedahoe: Yea...I am thinking should have looked for a diesel. Oh well...can you shoe horn in a diesel to a 2003 2500 with original gas trans? By the way, does the OHD lie? If so, lie better MPG or worse? I have not yet done manual calculation. Thanks again!

the torque from the cummins would make that gas trans cry even if it did bolt up (which it more than likely wont).

usually lies better, but it can be off either way. are you driving mostly city? i get 11 mpg out of my 1500 5.7L qc in the city, so 10 isn't unheard of.

Yeah, i was going to say the torque from a CTD would be way to much for a gas trans and like xfeejayx said, it wont mate up.

You need a handheld programmer for a 2003 since the ecu and trans are both tuned for 2003 programming. Forget about the engine being a 2006. They are the same for the 2500.

I'd forget about the 3714 as that is old news and the features are not there compared to the 3865. look HERE
