It's a mode that a lot of crysler products have. When something isn't right with the tranny it goes in to something called "safe mode" or something like that. It basicly is protecting your tranny if something isn't right.

Mine did it at 125 k. there was a ton of metal in the pan from lack of maintenence. I doubt yours is blown. It may be just the modual that controls that mode. Whatever it is you did the right thing by bringing it to a pro than asking here!

Good luck and God bless!

Yeah, my mechanic is awesome, I would recommend him to anyone in South East PA, down in the Maple Grove - West Chester Area.

Let me ask you guys this, the initial reason I was taking my truck to the shop (all this happened on the day of my appointment) I had just replaced the Powersteering pump, and I started to get a squeal, which turned out the be the Serpentine belt, (I am not fantastic with cars, I only know as much as I read on the internet, so if you guys could avoid laughing at me I would appreciate it, anyway) is it possible for the belt slipping cause something to not run properly and cause my problem?

I'm about like you in that respect. I know what I have researched, overheard, and had to do myself.

Call the mechanic and ask him if you should spray some belt squeel stuff on it. Or just call him and let him be aware.

If you own a Chrysler product and are having any shifting problems, spend $60 and put a governor pressure sensor in it. I've had the same problem with my old Dakota and the wifes old Jeep. They would both shift up to D fine, but only go down to 2nd when stopped. If you shut it off and restart it, I bet it takes off in 1st again. AAMCO told me I had to spend $2500 to rebuild the tranny in the Jeep, I drove to the dealer, they had like 5 sensors in stock (hint that it's a common problem), $60 later and like 6-7qts of fluid and I drove the hell outta it for another 2yrs.

Thanks that would be awesome if it was the problem. The only question I have is, did you have the burnt trans fluid?

According to AAMCO I did, That's why they said I needed a rebuild. I don't remember how bad it was, I just drained it as I was planning on replacing it anyway. I'm not saying that's definately the problem, but for $60, I'd at least try it before i went dumping a couple grand on a rebuild.

This is interesting, you tow at all? The 46re is known to be weak. I'm planning on a shift kit soon. Had the tranny fluid changed at 60000 probably the first time. (I'm the 3rd owner) shifts like a champ. I did adjust the throttle valve cable a tad also to tighten up the shifts.

No towing from me, the truck is just a daily driver to and from work, occasionally haul stuff for work, but nothing major and I haven't done that in a while. I do however, do a lot of stop and go as I use it to deliver mail on Saturdays.

@Last of the 5.9s - I may just tell my mechanic to give that a try if replacing the fluid doesn't work this time, I really don't want to dive into a 1500 - 2500 rebuild.

@Last of the 5.9s - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! That was the problem. My Mechanics transmission guy said that is EXACTLY what he would have replaced, and that it is actually a quite common thing. My grand total at the shop, 650 bucks - Power Steering Pump replaced - Serpentine Belt replaced - Transmission drained, solenoid, and governor pressure sensor replaced, transmission filter replaced, and Tranny fluid.

He was actually surprised that the last time I had this problem changing the fluid and filter fixed it all for me. So thank you to all for the help and ideas!!! I think I might actually hang around here more!
