Question MagnaFlow installation question

Hi guys, I am new to the site and recently got an 2007 RAM 1500 with the HEMI. I joined the site to research exhaust (lots of good info here), and now i have a question that I was hoping some one could answer.

I ordered a MagnaFlow cat back dual kit online today (found it for <$400), and I was planning on installing it myself. Are there any tips/ticks/pitfalls that I should be aware of? As far as I could tell it looks to be a pretty simple installation, and I could avoid paying the local shop $80 to do it.

Any suggestions and or tips would be appreciated.

thanks,
nateroach

Nate, would you mind posting or pm'ing me exactly what you bought and from where? I'm looking for a magnaflow system that will give me a low rumble at startup and cruise and a nice bark on acceleration. And, are there options for side exits vs. rear exits?

yeah, pretty straight forward.... the trickiest part is the crappy mount on the driver side rear... you'll see...

here is the system that I ordered:

I ordered it from Amazon because they had it for $395 with free 2 day shipping. it appears now that they have raised the price up to the more common $600, maybe because they only have 1 left, i dunno

Yes there are options for side exit, rear exit, and dual side exit kits

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ayproducts.asp

this link shows all 3 options, I ordered the dual rear exit set up.

To those that have installed them, do you need to cut out the stock set up? if so, whats the best method (sawzall?) and is there a prefered location to make that cut?

I'll post up pics of the truck when i get home and have a minute. It's Patriot blue Ram 1500 with the HEMI and the big horn package (20" wheels), and line-X bed liner. other than that I really haven't done much to it, just added some mud flaps.

thanks guys

Very easy install. I have the same exhaust and as beater said the drivers side mount sucks.

Thanks for the input guys. I will make sure and take plenty of pics before and after, and maybe try to get a write up on the install procedure, so future noobs like me will have a reference when they decide to do something similar.

Any opinions on whether or not cutting will be required to get the factory exhaust out?

thanks,

well, with mine i had to cut some of the pipe behind the cat... i also had to cut the tail pipe off of the muffler, and maybe a hanger or two... depends on how rusted yours is..

I don't have much rust, the truck only has 22k miles on it. Did you have to cut out those sections because of rust, or just to get it out?

Did you guys remove the front muffler (stock) to make it louder, or leave it in? I have heard that if you leave in the front muffler it makes it quite a bit less noticeable when the MDS kicks in. I want something thats pretty throaty, deep sounding, but not horrible sounding when the MDS kicks in. Any suggestions? (just for the record i don't want to do a MDS delete at this point, i'll wait for the warranty period to expire before I mess with that just in case anything happens)

thanks,
nateroach
