Kickers are (at least used to be) small box subs, so running that open air will sound like crap. The old school Solo's (the round ones) were THE small box sub. I used to have 2 of them that would hit hard. Try to find a 1 cubic foot box, or something close to that and put it in there. There will be a big difference.
