Default Free Sub Questions

I came across an old Kicker sub at work and I was told I could have it if I wanted it so naturally I couldn't resist. Its an old old old Kicker Competition C12a. I don't know anything about it or if it's even worth keeping. I just wanna know what you guys think, and if I should even hold on to it or just trash it.

I hooked it up to my amp to see if it even worked and I thought it was going to explode. I kicked on the bass boost on the amp and I thought the thing was gonna jump up and hit my in the face. It prolly shot out a good inch or so, my guess is it's not made to handle very high wattage.

Yea that's what it looks like, it's much dirtier though since it was found in an old forclosed home. It has dirt and crap stuck all over it and paint is chipped and starting to rust. Everything I have found off google says these things pound like none other but that was also back in the day so idk.

Those were nice subs, but they didn't handle that much power. i think they were like 125rms and 250peak???? very low numbers but a clean sounding sub.
When it's moving do you hear any scraping? If you push the woofer all the way in to bottom it out do you hear crunching?

I've got a Mint old school Kicker solobaric if your interested. not free, but pretty cheap. look at my sig. i have a super small sealed box i could ship it in for a few more$$$ for shipping

I don't hear any scraping when I press it in, I have a feelin the reason it sounded so crappy is cuz it wasn't in any type of box. But heres some pics of it.

If you had it ust running free air then yeah, the cone will have max excursion even at low volumes. That's not a free air sub. i would get that in a box and see how it performs.

I need to find a 12" box round here somewhere to try it out. I got some friends who have a ton of audio stuff so I'll have to ask around for something to test with.
