RE: speed limiter for ram's??
Typically, one isn't going to pull top speed in a steep overdrive gear, even without speed-limiting. Most vehicles with such "cruising/mileage" cogs cannot pull red-line in them. My C-5 Vette 6-speed, 3.42 gears, maxes out in fifth, not sixth--too much drag, not enough torque in present form.
I'd be interested to know what all options exist for the new Hemi 1500 ST I"ve on-order to remove the speed-limiter, completely. No, I don't expect to have a need for it, but I like to think that's something I control, not some geek and his suit supervisor in Michigan.
Thanks.

Yes, I've read that our trucks have a speed limiter. That would be consistent for DC, since even the highest performance Mercs do. Ironic given that the Ram (Little Red Express) was once one of the very few production vehicles able to go double the "Double Nickel" speed limit of the era.
I suspect someone has hacked a way around it, though. Anyone know?

All high-performance sedan german cars adopted speed limiter at 250 Km/h in 1987 when Audi, BMW and Mercedes reached an "agreement" (BMW proposed it first) to limit their top of the line Sedans to avoid excessive risks, since german Autobahn (freeways) have no speed limit and their cars' top speed became quickly very high, up to 300 Km/h for the faster models in the '90s, and you can drive as fast as you can in Germany.
Today, faster cars' engines have reached even higher power (400, 500, 600 CV) and speed limiter tuned at 250 Km/h is still included in almost all of them.
Almost, because last year Audi told that its new model RS6-Plus will probably have the limiter lifted to 280 Km/h.
And anyway, many owners of these cars obviously disengage the limiter (it is a simply few-bits software modification in the ECU) so that the car can reach its "natural" speed.

RE: speed limiter for ram's??
So has anyone in the US figured whether the speed limiter was RPM related (for sure)? If not, other than a super-chip or $400 programmer, is there something that could be disengaged "manually"? After Calling a local Dealer, I've still got these same questions. They were NOT helpful! Also, after reading this topic, it seems that the Hemi 03's actually go faster than the 04's and 05's in regards to the speed limiter. What's up w/ that? Does anyone know if the SRT-10 has the same affect? I'm considering trading my "QC Hemi baby" in for a 2005 SRT-10 QC. Other than the fuel consumption, will I be disappointed (in regards to a speed limiter yet again)? Don't get me wrong, I'm just a speed junkie who's fed up with blowing the doors off the Fords on the highways just to have them "creep" up bigger and bigger in the rear view! LOL

Rev Limiter at stock was 5800
Speed Limiter was like 108
Now
Rev Limiter 6100 (Max setting is 6200)
Speed Limiter 140
So my guess is they are two different items.

RE: speed limiter for ram's??
If I am thinking correctly, changing the shift points with the SC allows you to go faster, well faster. I read somewhere that the engine (stock hemi) maxes out producing power at 5800 or 5900 rpms, so it would do no good going higher than that. And like Pappy said, we can change the speed limiter to 140. However, I don't think I got the ***** to try that on the highway... on a closed track, that's one thing, but I was nervous at 110 with that big truck. One little turn and I would be a rollin'. I am not sure if 140 is the max, or it is just shut off at that point. I don't know if the truck has the muscle to go that fast, overcoming the wind resistance and all. e=mc^2

Me thinksI set meWOT 1-2 shiftto 6000 and 2-3 5950
The reason Ipicked 6k is when she does shift it drops RPMs. 5900 to 6000 takeslike a micro second. Seems to pull harder in 2nd this way.
But hey I'm not a Pro-Am street racer so I could be way wrong. LoL
