Default weight my truck can handle with a trailer?

so i just got my 08 ram 1500 and am wondering what kind of weight i can pull with a trailer. I am wanting to get a trailer and put my 99 dodge on it which is a fairly heavy truck but i dont want to mess up my 08.

ask or message HAMMERZ71, he's really good with a lot of the towing and other very important stuff. That's why he's a moderator here. lmao Btw, hammmer, I'll go fishing with you, I grew up on lake Okechobee!!!!!!!! Good fishing.

i wouldn't go over 8000lb (trailer + what ever is on it) to be safe i think that truck is rated at 9600lb with the 17" rims 8600lb with 20" rims

You have a 4.7 or 5.7 (hemi)? What size rims? Tow ratings are in your owner's manual. Not sure if they've added it since mine, but what wasn't in my manual was that I had to subtract 1000 lbs because I'm running the stock 20" wheel package. Still came out to be more than my 2000 5.9 model would tow though. I'm sure it's different for different model years but I think mine says 8400 lbs. with the hemi. What I didn't know was that, with the 20" wheels, it's really only 7400 lbs.

You should continue to pursue details but if you have a decent dual axle trailer, you should be fine to tow that truck and trailer. Keep in mind that you don't want to exceed your gross weight rating which includes anything any cargo and passengers plus anything you are towing.

Hemi? gear ratio? I have the brochure. PM me with the truck details and I'll tell you the exact tow rating.

Engine
Trans
Gear ratio
cab (std, quad, mega)
bed (short / long)
2wd or 4x4.

Wonder why the 20s affect tow rating? Is it just the outer diameter of the tire? I don't know if 17s have taller tires to equal the 20s diameter or not.

I do know my Cooper tires are a heavier load rating than the stock Goodyears so I'm ok in that department.
