Default Tow/Haul Mode

I got a 2005 ram1500 hemi and when I got it in Tow/ Haul mode the trans dosen't lock up the torque converter when going 60mph very easily. I try to speed up to 70-80 mph and let off the gas to help the computer think its not loaded up and even then the s.o.b sometimes will not lock up. Is this common with these trucks? In non tow/haul mode the truck operates perfectly.

Okay non-mechanical guy here (for the most part). Is that the part that drops the RPM's when you get to a cruising speed? If so, mine does it too. I don't have to take it to the extreme you describe but, often, at highway speed limit, I have to goose and left off the gas a little bit to get it to just start cruising and try to sip instead of gulp the gas per the tach.

Yeah if your going about 60mph in towhaul mode and the tach is readin about 2500rpm or higher then the converter isan't locked up(pending your gear ratio). I think tow haul mode eliminateds 5th gear and changes the shift patterns.

Mine locks up fine. It should just raise the 2-3 and 3-4 shift points and lock out 5th.
If you are cruising at 60mpg and you mildly accelerate, the rpm shouldn't raise any faster than the mph does. It should be locked. There's not a big drop from 4th to 5th in my rig.

Yeh, then I do have the same issue but it's not that big a deal usually. I just have to let off the gas just a little and it'll usually lock in and I can feather the gas back up to stay at speed. It's not something that just started happening though. Been that way since I bought it.

My 06 3/4 ton @ 60, the RPM would stay the same as in OD. In my 08 1500 4.7, @ 60 going from OD to towhaul the RPM goes from about 1600 to 2500. Was wondering if that is normal? How will that affect when towing?

the tow/haul locks out the overdrive gears so that you have more torque while towing, that's my understanding of it. you get worse mileage from it. it's one of those things i only use on big hills or while towing a big load, because of the stupid gutless 4.7 motor. i really think Dodge shouldn't have made a v8 that was that small, they should ditch the 4.7 for a 5.3 or something.

Here's how it works on an '06 with tow/haul feature:
Push the button once - 5th gear is locked out, but t/c will still lock in 4th (use this for light towing at higher speeds)
Push the button twice - 4th & 5th gear is locked out, and t/c stays unlocked (use this for heavy towing at slower speeds)
