CV's fixed but still hear humming-type noise-"03 1500 QC 4x4
Hey there folks, long time reader and have enjoyed learning bits and pieces about my ’03 1500 QC 4x4.
I have an problem that I need to resolve before it become a major problem, ( if it isn’t already too late).
I had my CV’s replaced last May (left side) and Sept.( right side)and it cost me about $500 and $700 each side...at the expense of other household necessities. Anyway I was shown the problem, the splines (?) were worn down pretty bad on each side so they were changed out and supposedly fixed each time.
After the last fix, it still didn’t feel or sound right.
The sound is like a low hum, It becomes more noticeable as I increase speed ( there is no wobble or shake). Almost like the whine when your tires need changing.
The feel is like a small vibration. it is as if the 4x4 is still engaged but I know it’s not because the 4x4 dashlight is not on and it doesn’t have feel like when your in 4x4 and turn on dry pavement, (you 4-wheelers know what I mean)
My question... could the repair work on the CV’s have affected the transfer case somehow. It just doesn’t feel right. I have hardly driven it since early October when I got it back from that repair job, maybe 150-160 miles. The engine runs well and there are no shifting issues.
I am not a gear head so any simple ideas would be great. Thanks for your help.
