Default Need more traction!

I have searched and already posted this topic just to get more confused. My truck has an open rear diff. and I find myself reaching for the 4x4 lever alot this winter. Sure, half worn 20" stock Goodyears are just about as worthless as you can get, but when only the right rear tire spins....it don't help any.

So, I want/need an limited spin or a locker of some kind. I was going to go Powertrax but through searching found out that there might be better choices out there. Auburn, Detroit, ect.

Whats good/bad? I guess I don't need a full on locker, but I would like both rears to spin when I tell them too! Thanks.

Gosh darnit... I didnt see this post, sorry guys. I just posted a thread about this, but for the front diff. Im subscribed. I apologize again.

Anyways, the powertrax is the more economical choice, but the detroits are a bit pricey. Also, a locker in the rear for snow, isnt always the best option. Your tire setup is a major crutch, which doesnt help as you stated. I know if it were me, I knew the traction wasnt very good, I would just leave it in 4HI.

Anyways, I apologize again guys. I newb'd out.

Tis' true, a LSD or locker has pluses AND minuses when driving in the snow/ice. If winter driving is your only consideration for wanting a LSD, you might be better spending your money on a better set of tires and putting some weight in the back end.

and 04, I'm going to look for your post now, cause unless you snuck a SFA in your 1500, you'r cornfused, man...

Hammer... I had a brain fart. I just decided I wanted a locker in the front, and overlooked the step of possibility. I guess last night I was tired... LOL. Lack of beer.

Besides Auburn and factory Dodge (junk-o) who offers a limited slip for my truck? Not too bad of a price on the Auburn unit either.....

So I've searched up and down reading about the Auburn and DTT LSD. From the looks of it, one can't go wrong with either unit.

My prior ride was an 03 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II that had a worm gear type LSD from the factory, I think it was an Eaton. At 66K while driving down the road it went BANG! The right rear was locked up and the left rear was spinning. I put it in reverse, made more noise and started to work OK. I babied it home then removed the diff. cover. I was rewarded with a handful of metal chucks. Whatever happened it did it big time. I was able to find a junk yard axle with the same LSD, but it didn't work that great. In a straight line on pavement it would spin both rears, but come winter it acted like in didn't even work at all.

So, I know most will say the DTT is bulletproof and maybe it is. I'm just not 100% sure yet on who to spent about $500 with.
