Default Proper Wiring of Air Compressor

Just curious, how have all of you guys wired your air compressors? My compressor should be here tomorrow and the specs say it draws 18 amps max, whats the proper way to wire this? Did you guys just wire yours straight to the battery with an inline fuse?

Also, how did you guys wire your electric solenoid? I could just cut the wires for the existing horn and use those but I think it would get rather annoying when the air horns go off every time I lock the truck.

On board 12 volt air compressor* I think it might start smoking a little if I tried plugging it into my wall.

Use a relay and a switch. Fuse the "high" side at 25A and the "low" side at 3A. It might pop the 25A on startup. If it does, go to a 30A (unless the manual says different).

best way would probably direct with a inline fuse. I think I wanna wire up a little fuse panel under one of my back seats one day for accessories. Maybe do that?

You are going to need a standard SPDT 5 pin relay if it does not come with one. You will also need a 5 pin harness if you can find one but if not then get some INSULATED female spade connectors. The relay is a 30/40 amp (depends one how you wire it) and can be found at most audio shops and aut parts stores.

This will help pretty much no matter what compressor you have
