IPOD intergration
I have done a search and can't seem to find a clear-cut answer. I have the REC nav unit that does not have an aux input (what were they thinking?
) I don't want to use an fm modulator, I have one that worked well in NY but here in NC it seems that everytime I am driving I have to adjust the frequency as local stations overpower the signal. I would also like to incorporate the steering wheel controls if possible.
Any suggestions?

I bought a unit on ebay made by USA spec that plugs into the CD changer port on the back of my RAZ radio and works great, sounds awesome, and works with my steering wheel controls. I found compatible models by going on ebay and searching for keywords "dodge ipod RAZ". I'm pretty sure they make various models that will work with most chrysler radios. Don't search for Ram specfically because Chrysler may have put that radio on other models as well, including Jeeps.
Here is one that says it will work with your radio:

Depends on the unit you buy and what you have installed on your radio. My RAZ unit is a single CD player built in that can support an optional 6 cd changer externally. With my USA spec unit, if I had had the CD changer, I would have had to unplug it to use the ipod. But the built in CD player still works. Some units plug in where an optional satellite radio plugs in and works through that port. Bottom line, if you have a CD player built into the radio, it should still work. But depending on the optional components you have, you may have to do without something to use it. The information on the unit should tell you what will work and what won't.
I've had the fm modulator stuff before and it doesn't sound as good, it won't keep your ipod charged, and you have to deal with the interference you described. These adapters are definitely the way to go.

I had an iPod interface on my 04 Avalanche. It just plugs into the radio between the radio and the harness. It worked well. They make them for most vehicles :

Has anyone used this one and is it a good quality unit? Also, will this one work with my RDS head unit?

caliboy, that's the unit I have with my RAZ head unit - see my info in the posts above. I'm not familiar with the RDS head unit but if it has an external CD changer port on the back of it, this should work for you. I love mine. I got rid of my XM radio and replaced it with this and I NEVER listen to regular radio. When you get tired of your playlists, just bring the ipod in and change them up and put it back in the truck.
The only weird "glitch" I have with my unit is that it seems to cut off if I start the truck up and try to change discs (playlists) or songs rapidly within the first couple of minutes. It will stop playing and display "no mag" on my head unit. But then it resets itself and I'm good to go. It never does it any other time though. Just right after first starting up and driving off - and even then, it doesn't always do it.

I thought about putting it elsewhere so the ipod would be more accessible, but the easiest place to put it is in the glove box and that has worked out fine for me. I happened to have some adhesive velcro strips so I mounted those to it so it doesn't slide or jiggle around in the glove box. Once you get the head unit out and drop the glove box down, you'll see how easy it is to move around back there and route your cable and all. I don't have any pix but it's pretty self-explanatory once you get in there. No drilling or anything.
