Default hid flashing problem

I have an 02 ram 5.9l. I just bought hid headlights and foglights for my truck. Fog lights look good. Headlights just flash. I had to put the oem bulbs back in. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

HID flickering or flashing is usually due to one of two things. Poor connection or too low voltage (which could be due to issue #1). If the voltage is too low, this can damage the ballasts.

Also, it sounds like you are using HID bulbs in standard halogen housings?? If so, and sorry to be a pain about it, do everyone else on the road a favor and not do that. The reason is that halogen housings were never designed for HID use. HID bulbs are longer and therefore push the light emitting part of the bulb further out into the parabolic reflector. The result is blinding the heck out of everyone coming at you since the light is getting scattered all over the place. A true HID reflector is deeper and designed so the HID light is properly reflected and focused. Check state laws as HID bulbs in halogen housings are illegal in many states (if not all).

If these are aftermarket housings designed for HID, then I'd be checking voltages, the ballasts or the bulbs themselves.

I have read that the problem is the CAN-BUS system in these trucks. I believe that the problem can be fixed with a cancellor kit. Had anyone had success with one of these kits?

You need to install a capacitor or canceler kit inline with your oem headlight connectors. I originally had capacitors on mine as they stopped the flickering problem but still left me with the famous light out indicator on the dash. I recently installed cancelers and removed the capacitors, no flickering but still have the light out indicator. Long story short, yes you need cancelers.

Sorry for intruding on the thread. I have an 06 Ram that has this HID flashing problem. I had a 35w kit in and the ballast went out so i purchased a 50/55w kit thinking if it draws 55 watts it wont throw the flash code. The flashing only happens when i have my truck running. I can turn them on and it flashes on,off,on,off,on and then off and will not turn back on until i kill the truck and turn the key to run but not cranking it. Im really lost on this, but i was told to get capacitors. i have found some on ebay which i found under HID capacitors. Is this what i need to fix my problem?

Badblackram: Yours being an '06 model, our trucks need a "relay kit" to fix this. I had the same issue, and the company I got my lights from, HIDextra, sent me a pre-wired, plug-n-play relay kit. It connects to your battery, both positive and negative terminals. This is what powers your lights, essentially, and your stock socket is just basically the power switch, turns'em on and off.

Hope this helps. If not, use that search function, you'll find more than your fair share of info....
