Default Cold Air Intake

Whats the best company out there for cold air intake mods? I hear that the Airaid might give you a little better horsepower than the K&N's. Is this true or are they really all the same for the 3.7?

They're all about equal. The cheapest way is to make your own out of pvc, but if you're like me then that probably won't appeal to you. The next best option is the kool vue, velocity, or bombz intake which is just a copy of the AEM/mopar intake. Get the one for the 4.7 from autopartswarehouse or carpartswholesale and everything should fit fine. The only issue w/ these as w/ the earlier AEM's is that the bracket on the filter end can break and you'll need to fab something up to hold it in place. For like $70 it's a good deal and then just get a better filter for it like the AEM dryflow and you'll be set.

So the 4.7 intakes are the same as the 3.7L intakes?

Not exactly but everything mounts up to the same locations w/ the aem/mopar knockoff's so you can use them, at most you might need a different coupler for the TB.

I've heard stories of people buying very cheap ebay knockoffs and having problems with the mounting harware breaking from engine vibrations. Be carefull on what products you buy. Guys like Chambers can really help you out he's been around for a while.

Yea like I said the AEM clone and even the AEM intakes themselves had issues w/ the bracket on the filter end breaking off. It's not a difficult fix to fab up a bracket to hold it in place if that happens and at $70-80 they're the cheapest ones you can get.

It sure beats the $300 - $400 alternative with the same results. I do love my K&N though.

So if I had money to burn, would I see more performance increase from an airaid or a K&N? Or is should I had bought a truck with a v8? I just wanted to see what other people out there had on their trucks.

Do'nt really think theres much difference in performance and youre not gonna get much with the intake alone. I'm having a exhaust put on and plan on an e-fan, jet chip, and headers in the future. Not sure exactly what you have, but my truck is just too heavy to really get any real performance out of it's V-6, I wont be racing in it for sure. For what I need now my V-6 does good and looks great. If I could do it again I might have bought a 4.7 though (I've heard the Hemi eats a ton of gas, not sure though.)

Bottom line the Ram is a great truck, you can find lots of aftermarket products to personalize it. Bad thing is these guys on this site will spend your money for you before you can make it.

well i have a 08' 4.7L ram... i bought the S&B intake system and i am very disappointed. it sounds like exhaust is coming out of my intake. idk what the problem is??? in plus, i felt a power decrease and drop in fuel economy.....
