The FSM for my 2005 calls for a min of 4 psi, and a max of 110 psi.

I'd take the cold reading and compare it to the hot reading. Normally the cold reading will be very high, and I would expect, mid-range when warm.

Do you have MDS? I strongly recommend you get an FSM for your year truck to help troubleshoot any internal noises.

I would also do anything you can to figure out if its internal or external. If its a bearing on a pulley or alt causing that weird noise, it would be easier to fix foor sure.

Havent been down to get the analogue oil press gauge. IU now see a check engine light when this happens in the mornings. Read the code and got a p0306, cylinder 6 misfire detected. Any ideas or should i def get the oil pres gauge first.

The lifters are in the block so if they are hitting the valve covers, you have big problems

Sounds like a Valve is sticking open on start-up. This means no compression on said cylinder causing the miss and the noise is the sticking open valve smacking shut after getting smacked by the piston. Not good.

LXMAN.. Sounds right about the compresion. Problem is im used to doing compression tests on one plug per cylinder engines. How do i do a compression test on this truck with two plugs per cylinder. Do I just leave one spark plug in when doing the test???

Last time jimbo logged on was 1.29.10, so doubt if anyone here knows what the results/findings were. If you're having the same issues and cylinder misfire codes getting thrown, I'd be doing a compression test. Find out what the problem is before continuing to drive it...avoid disaster.

i had the same problem too and i would like to let anyone with this problem know what i was able to find. first of all when people post there problems on these sites and request help as i did, it would be nice if some of them posted the final results. second i would like to thank all of the suggestions i did get with my post on this site. Ok my problem was the same just not as bad as this guys. on cold starts engine idle was very bad and had a backfire into the manifold, when she warmed up she ran great. i had p0306 misfire in valve #6. i removed valve cover and replaced both valve springs cost per spring $3.00 valve gasket $25.00 then replaced the rear lifters on that side $120.00 head gasket $35.00 oil change $30.00 and replaced anti freeze $30.00 luckly i had a family member that was able to do this job. started the truck and no back fire and no misfire. total parts about $245.00. if you take it to dealer it calls for 3 hours for valve springs and 8 hours for lifters. it took us about 7 hours for the whole job.. just something to keep in mind it might have been just the valve springs but i changed the lifters just to be safe. i hope this helps anyone with this problem. and again thank you for all the advise from this site. i will use it again for all my questions due to there are many people that take the time to help...
