Your input on a warranty
I agree with the previous posts. Yes, I am new here, but warr. are pure profit. I have had my truck only a few weeks and during the purchase process they kept telling me how great it was that I was getting a certified preowned truck covered up to 80k. No sooner than I got in the finance office they tried to sell me a lifetime warr. for 1400. Told them no thanks.
I got a quote from my Dodge dealer. Lifetime drivetrain warrenty for $1500. My warrenty is up very soon. My thoughts on non-dealer warrenties are like everyone elses. My last truck (97 k1500) had an extended warrenty through GM and 6 months later it paid for itself. Wish I had an lifetime extended warrenty when the trans smoked in Florida though.
I definitely hear you guys all loud and clear, I don't believe anybody here supports warranties. I thank you all a lot for voicing your opinions, it's very helpful to me.
When I spent the $1,900 on my warranty I was told it was a 7 year/100,000 bumper to bumper that started from the day I bought the truck, but in reality, it started the day the truck was new! I would have NEVER spent that much had I been told the truth. Now that punk has the nerve to ask for $960 more to get what I orginally request for, it's a sin.
I'm guessing I will get back anywhere from $1,000-$1,400, but I don't know how long it's going to take to get it back. All I know is I don't want the warranty from them anymore, period. The banks price is extremely reasonable, but judging from what you guys are saying, the money I was going to spend on the new warranty ($1,600) plus the money I am getting back from the other warranty ($1,000-$1,400) is going to be well above $2,000. Like you guys said, I could just put that away in savings incase anything happens to the truck. Not only will I have plenty to cover the truck, but I'll actually know the repairs will be done and I won't have to spend extra money after I buy a warranty. I'm getting my tax returns back in two weeks which is going to be around $2,500. I plan on putting $1,000 down on my principle and then refinancing. I will then keep the extra $1,500 and put it in savings. Then whenever the refund comes in, I'll have over $2,000 to save for savings and it can gain interest like one of you eluded to. Thanks for the input guys!

Bravo! I must say I did not expect you to go this route! BUT I will say publicly I am glad you did, and one day you will be as well. When you have no repairs and you are ready to trade that truck look at the nice down payment you will have!
