Default Your input on a warranty

As most of you know from a thread I posted over a month ago, I was dealing with the dealership I bought my truck from about a mishap on a warranty I purchased through them at the time I bought my truck last April. Long story short, it turns out they sold me a warranty that only covered me up to 72,000 miles and not 100,000 miles, and that it didn't cover me up until 2016, but to 2012.

After going back and forth with him for way too long, he quote me an additional $960 to get the extra 28,000 miles and they won't even give me more time. I've already given them $1,900 for the measly warranty I have now, a joke. Anyways, I want to know what your guys opinion is on credit union warranties? The bank I have my loan with right now can offer me a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty that is comparable to a bumper to bumper plan for just $1,600 (the company is called "Route 66 Extended Warranty"). That's less than what I paid for originally. I've asked the dealership to cancel my warranty, but I'm not sure how much I will be getting back. I haven't used it once, but I have put 14,000 miles on the truck and it's been 9 months since I bought it. What are your guys thoughts? Please be objective and I would appreciate not being criticized if some of you are anti-warranty. Thanks

I can't stand warranty's only because hopefully you never use it and it will probably run out before you do and if needed you get nothing but resistance to fix your truck anyhow and cross your fingers if they fix it right the first time. Allot of the outside warranty's need pre-approval to authorize the repair before work is done AND some of them only will fix a major problem ONCE or if you hit a set limit in expenses so read CAREFULLY the FINE print. Good luck

You've already put $1900 into a warranty. i wouldn't drop anymore. i'd take the chance of nothing happening bewteen now and 100kmi. it would be silly to spend nearly $4k on warranties that you may never even use. i think it's like1 out of 10 people use extended warranties. Business are making HUGE profits off of selling warranties because most never need them.

Totally agree. You are worrying about the warranty too much man. If you save the money that you are about to drop on a second warranty you can use it to fix anything that may go wrong after your dealer warranty expires. And if nothing goes wrong then you have that money in your pocket to use for other things.

The other thing you mentioned in the past is wanting to have a warranty as an incentive for someone to buy your truck. But the reality is that if you sell it in 2012 it will be a seven year old truck, and I doubt many buyers will be expecting a warranty on a seven year old truck.

Take the money, put it in a savings account. It will draw interest. Unless you blow an engine (very unlikely) most any other repair will be less than $200 and if you never need it, it will just be more money after interest and you win. Most aftermarket warranties are crap anyway. They find every little detail to deny your claim and your out even more money.

Get the money back from the first company, they have to give you back what you paid pro-rating out the percentage you have used up.

Then DO NOT get another one, like LX says, put it in savings each month and if nothing goes wrong with your truck by the time you want a new one, you have a decent down payment.

If the consumer came out ahead on warranties, there would be no aftermarket warranty companies!!!

Cancel the warranty and take back whatever amount is allowed. Put the money in the bank.

I must agree also, save the money and pay for the repairs! BUT I know you will get this warranty to 100k because it is important to you, so do it!

But it is NOT a good deal, and that is what you asked us. so we are not being critical, just honest!
