Sts turbo..... 1500
i am looking at buying a STS turbo kit for 3rd gen ram off craigslist and im wondering what you guys think he wants 1500 for it... my trucks a 2008 dodge ram hemi laramie with 58k and what would i have to do to accommodate the turbo and install it? thanks guys!
i beleive so, but i'd be SO hesitant about that. you're gonna want to make sure it comes with EVERYTHING from the original kit. one small missing link could really throw you off big time. does it come with instructions? that kit comes with a lot of parts and i just really dont think its gonna come with everything. $1500 is a great price, but its a wasted $1500 if it doesnt come with ALL the parts (again, being used i'd bet about anything it wont)
heard the remote turbos are bad news.....GREAT for horsepower and also the engine being alot cooler.....butttttt....read somewhere that its really susceptible to getting water/dirt/other stuff to ruin the engine because of where its mounted. i might be wrong, but im sure someone can back me up on this.

They retail for 2999.00 brand new with a lifetime of custom tuning and a warranty. That would be worth the extra money to me.

Yeah ive heard the same thing regarding debris and stuff getting caught up in the turbo due to its under car mounting. If your gonna go with forced induction id say its better to invest in a new system just to get the peace of mind of having a warranty and manufacturer tech support.

DAMN! I was hoping no one here would discover the STS system until I put it on my truck!
I have had a lot of experience with the STS kits. Many of my friends (cars) have had them installed and they TOTALLY out perform conventional set ups.
And yes, I'll argue that ALLLLLL day if you like.
Two words. BAD ***!!!
Because of the distance from the manifold to the turbo, the ambient temperature of the exhaust is way lower, so you have less need for an intercooler or methane kit. Of course if you want to go crazy on boost, you will still need to compensate some how. But ALSO! Due to the distance, consequently, the turbo doesn't get as hot which affects not only performance, but also the longevity of the turbo's life.
Yes, with any turbo, there is risk of "stuff" getting consumed into the turbo. Especially on a truck when you are less than careful of where you drive. But if I recall right, the intakes kit for the truck installs up alongside the underside of the bed, some what out of the way and also has a shield to try and protect the cone filter. "snorkel kit"...
As for this buy, I would make the seller give you an inventory list of all parts, and compare it to the mfgr's list. Then if you do buy, check each piece of one by one as you take possession. If it's missing, no deal.
STS has PHENOMINAL customer service, and they back their product like mad!
ONE DOWNSIDE to this buy would be the lack of tuning...unless you are going to trace ECU's....which I wouldn't if it was me.
I'm already starting the funds saving to get my kit. Hopefully next summer.
