I want to say it was .045 but dont hold me to it. The autoparts store can tell you and they should already be pre-gapped.

Yep, it's .045 on the hemi and magnum motor.

I'm going to be changing mine too. And I keep losing my gap tool. Can someone confirm if the OEM replacement Champions are pregapped to .045?

Also, I guess I'm going to need certain size extensions and a u-joint extension to do this. I have 1 small extension - probably 3 or 4 inches. Can someone recommend specific type and sizes to buy to get the job done right? I'm not interested in moving parts off the firewall or out of the way if they can be gotten around with the right tools.

I can tell you mine were but I checked them anyway because you never trust anyone elses word and you dont know if they were dropped and the electrode was pushed in a tad. When you get your plugs just check them at the store or buy another tool for $1

I read a lot before I bought new spark plugs for my 4.7L. I didn't listen when most said to go with OEM. I bought the +2's from bosch. WASTE OF MONEY!!!! It ran great for about 5000 miles and is worse off now than before I changed plugs. I have an oil change coming soon and will be putting OEM plugs back in. Also, a 12 inch piece of fuel line works great for getting the old plugs out and the new ones in.

You know they make a specific socket for that right?

With the right extensions, shouldn't a 5/8" plug sucket with the rubber insert do the job? I understand, though, that you want to be very careful not to cross-thread when putting back in.

That's the "specific" tool weed's talking about. It's a spark plug socket with a rubber insert. That's what I used and never had to use a rubber hose. The insert holds the plug in place. You should really start the plug in by hand. By that I mean with the socket and an extension. That helps to eliminate cross threading if you can "feel" the way your putting the plug in.

I use a 3/8 ratchet, that socket, a 3" extension and a swivel. Thats really all you need. If you dont have that socket were talking about then you can do it like Ahook168 said. i was just teasing him.

I love an excuse to buy more tools. It's keeping up with them that I have a problem with. Problem is, we have 1 store here - Advance Auto. I went in the other day and they were out of stock on the u-joint swivels, 5/8" plug sockets, and couldn't find 16 matching plugs in stock for any brand in a standard type plug that would fit my truck. That's so typical for this hole in the ground I live in. So, all that stuff is on my list for the next time I hit the "big city".

Here are the gaps per the manual by the way. Just wondering if the champs do come pre-gapped at .045. Will check when I buy them.

ENGINE PLUG TYPE ELECTRODE GAP
3.7L V-6 ZFR6F - 11G (NGK) 1.1 (0.042 in.)
4.7L V-8 RC12MCC4 1.01 mm (.040 in.)
5.7L V-8 Champion - RE14MCC4 1.14 mm (.045 in.)
