Default Differential Fluid

I'm going to change my rear diff. fluid as well as my oil tomorrow. I already have Royal Purple oil and a Mobile 1 filter for the motor, but have been searching for the past hour try to get a solid answer on how much gear lube I need. 2 or 4 liters? I have an 06 1500 v6 with 9.25 LD rear axle and 3.92 gears. My build sheet doesn't say anything about limited slip or anti-spin so I'm sure the additive is not needed. Please help?

Differential, 9.25 Rear..........4.5 pints

Look in your glove compartment, the sticker should say like "ant spin" or something on it

If it does have the lsd, just put in 75W-140 Mobil 1 or RP syn gear oil with the additive already in it. If not, put in 5 ounces of a lsd additive

I'm actually changing my oil and rear axle fluid today too. According to the Haynes manual and the guy at Napa for a 2003 and later 1500 with the 9.25" rear axle it should take 2.45 quarts. Which should come up to 4.9 pints.

My question is if my build sheet doesn't say anything about LSD, does it hurt to put in gear oil that already has the limited slip additive mixed in? I would think not but I want to make sure.

ah that could be. I dont remember what I did with mine. I was taking that number off the Amsoil recommendations.

The additive will not hurt your gears, just will end up paying a little bit more for it.

Just stick the RP in there.
It won't hurt if you don't have an LSD.
Make sure you are about 1/4" below the fill hole on the diff cover.
That's the correct amount of fluid to put in the rear end.
Any more and cavitaion and foaming apparently occur, causing burnt gears etc.

Wyse...if you're like me you're gonna be sore tomorrow. I changed the diff fluid, oil and filter, cleaned the throttle body, rotated my tires (NTGs are freakin' heavy by the way!!!) and then I went and changed the oil in the wife's PT Cruiser and rotated her tires.

Here's me for the rest of the day (and maybe tomorrow too) ->

All done and installed a power wire as well. Might fix my hids now and change the bulbs in my fogs.

did you have fun cleaning that gasket off? haha, I had some red stuff on when I changed it last time and I swear, it was practically "welded" on. Used a black adhesive then, so when I change it in the next week or so I'll have to see if it made a difference.
