thinkin about sellin the truck
Ever since i picked up an auction car as a DD and let my truck sit in the driveway, I have since owned a 2nd vehicle along with my truck.
Even after the initial cost of the car, the basic insurance AND the gas to drive the thing, it paid itself off in 3 months which means the car was free at that point and putting money into my pocket.
I'd suggest getting into a descent little car so you can so the same. this will make you appreciate your Ram a bit more and it'll be more of a mod truck.
I think you'll get much more out of putting some mods into your truck than taking a huge hit and buying a new truck. .
Think about this....You'll take a descent whack on your truck..say $2k less than street price on a trade-in. As soon as you drive that new truck off the lot, your gonna be down another $6-7k in this economy. You can get a whole chitload of mods for that kinda money!
Right away I'm thinking gears. You'll feel like you got a whole new truck.
$3500 can get a nice Domestic car. Stay away from those imports as they are just money in the bank. You'll get a cardboard box for that kinda money compared to a nice Buick or caddy at $3500. Even the 2000 Impala's are real nice for that kinda money and near bullet proof. Those 3.8L are invincible and still get 29mpg highway..(yes GM for cars...chrysler has lots of issu'es with the late 90's early 2000's car engine's. IMO)

I say keep what you have til you are working full time then buy what ever you want and not worry about gas mileage. And I agree going 4wd and etter gas mileage is a tough one! Raptor's look cool, but not gonna get you the feel good feeling you are looking for!!
Yeah 'dog, I've almost always had a daily driver along with my 4x4 trucks and for the 11 years I was married had three vehicles most of the time. I think the only time in the last twenty years I had only a truck was the first year I had my current Hemi. Put 18k miles on it that year and then picked up my daily driver. Since then I've only put a total of 29k miles on the truck over the past 4 1/2 years. Mileage on the Grand Cherokee isn't great, especially since it's a V8 4x4 as well, but it is comfortable as hell and does manage about 6 mpg better than the truck...
screw the raptor! stay with what you have and even tho its not 4x2 you can still mod it up look at mine, and plus the only great thing about the raptor is the super charger and a different suspension for off-road, and factory supercharged vehicles suck, for instance the harley f150.. find a jeep like shiloh said if you want a 4x4.. but its your choice and money
[QUOTE=jms2291;2001723]i can afford it, i was just thinking it might be an investment,

I too buy what I want and pay cash for it but my suggestion to you is do not think of it as an investment because it is not. The market on vehicles is down so you should be able to make a shrewd deal for cash on just about any purchase you desire.
Good Luck,

theres no reason you cant mod a 2wd thats a lame excuse ...sorry if i offend but it is...a raptor is highly praised for a normal truck way over talked and priced.... with a few mods and less money you could make that truck look sick....but its YOUR money and MONEY isnt a option ...so get what you will....
first off i see how the original post gives mixed signals but quitting my job doesnt really matter, all of my training is paid for plus i get paid while i train so im already making money, more than before.
i dont have any bills except for gas, school is paid as well as housing and food.
second i live on a farm, we have chickens, horses, and cows and my truck cant touch the pasture after a good rain. (been stuck more than once), thats why i wanna but a 4x4
but i didnt know the raptor was only getting 12mpg...
so idk what to do...
