Default electronically controlled transfer case

Hi new here, but not to Dodge 4x4's I've had 1st and 2nd gen 4x4's a 84 and a 2000. I'm looking to move up to a 04 Hemi SLT 4x4, nice truck with 50000 miles on it and it has about every thing I would want, from the tow package to the creature comforts lol!

The one thing it has that I'm not so sure about or know anything about for that matter is the electronically controlled transfer case, I'm hoping it's not some type of all wheel drive full time deal...I thinking it just an electric version of the lever in the floor I'm used to. Are they depenable...work good in the frozen stuff...something maybe I should avoid.

I also would like to know 2 other things while I'm in a typing frenzy do the 3rd gens have a tag on the rear end telling the gear ratio an if so where?

And is there an easy way to tell if the truck came with a anti spin rear end...maybe a code on the tag under the hood or where ever it is on a 3rd gen. I've also heard and this might not be true, but this is the place to find out is if all 4 wheels lock up when you put in in 4 wheel drive?

Long post but I only upgrade trucks every 8 to 10 years so I try to be sure!

Thanks in advance for any help or answers!

Bobby

The tag to tell you if its an lsd is in the glovebox, It is not true 4wd, all 4 wheels are not going to be getting equal power when it is in 4wd, and it isnt an awd truck, at least not if it says 2wd on the switch. I have never had trouble with my electronic 4wd, and actually I have had less trouble with it than I did with my old 2nd gen with the stick on the floor, its a lot less hassle when trying to get 4wd to engage and disengage.

Its a great truck, I will tell you that, and if you get it you wont regret it!

There is an LSD option on the dodges, but its only on the rear axle, and its not the best LSD in the world, it will say anti-slip on the sticker in the glovebox if it has the LSD in it. If you want to get a truck and have the LSD in it though, the suggestion everyone makes is to get one and throw a Detroit Tru-Trac in it.
