cheapbeater has done what you are asking. I'd PM him or wait to see what he says. Either way, adjusting the torsion bar whether by a crank or new keys will make it a stiffer ride than stock. Don't think theres really any way around that.

Default Leveling Kit/shocks HELP!

Hey there everyone. I've been using this forum for about a year but just today made an "official" membership. Anyway, I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to truck modifications so I figured I'd ask 2 question I've always been curious about.

The first question is what are the major differences between buying a leveling kit and simply just cranking the torsion bars yourself? I myself am a victim of the quick and easy "crank" to fit some 35's I bought off my buddy and I've had the stiffest ride ever since. I've noticed just from reading on here that people who actually spent the $200-250 on the new keys also have a stiff ride. I've recently ordered a 3 in. PA body lift and was wondering if it was necessary to buy the leveling kit because I REALLY want my ride to be smoother. Also can I lower my front end down to stock once I get the lift without rubbing?

My second question is say I want to get a new set of shocks, should I get them all standard size? Because I noticed it was possible to purchase longer front shocks by and 1 inch or 2 inches etc. If I did get 2" longer shocks would it lift my truck more in the front? Or are they necessary to go with a leveling kit? I apologize for my "inexperience" and newbie questions lol. I appreciate all the help I get.
Fred

These are the shocks he got and installed...as far as I know they worked for his needs.

I also ordered the same ones and got em sitting in the garage right now. I'll be doin the tbar crank level and putting these on once the weather acts good.

Awesome! And they dont even cost that much. So these will improve the ride quality? If they do I'm ordering them tomorrow! So you're doing the same thing I did as far as just cranking your T bars instead of buying the kit??

yea the tbar crank has the exact same effect as the new keys. I wont be putting a body lift on though so that will alter certain aspects of the ride quality. I'm gunna try to get them on tomorrow. No idea how much better the ride is, I got the upgraded nitrogen ones though. I've got 130,000 miles on my stock shocks right now so I'm hoping I'll see an improvement. From what I understand, the Rancho 9000 series and the Blistens are the best option for overall ride quality. For the price of these rough countrys though, I couldnt pass them up.

It's my understanding that the Rough Countrys, the Skyjackers and the Pro Comp shocks are all the same shocks made be Tenneco, the parent company of Rancho and Monroe.

Where are you in Florida, Fred? The Pro Comps are on sale at 4 Wheel Parts, and are at or a little better than the Rough Country price. They have a store in Jacksonville and Orlando as well as being able to order from them online. Their 3000s are a a hydrogen shock and good for street use while the 9000s are nitrogen shock which is a bit better for towing, hauling and off-road use.

Ranchos and Bilsteins would be my first choices, but for a budget, you really can't go wrong with the Rough Countrys, Skyjackers or Pro Comps.

Hey Hammer thanks for the helpful info!

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you, my internet was down. Anyway, I'm currently living in Central Florida in a small town called Deland (about 20 min. from Daytona Beach). Ever been there? I don't particularly like 4wheelparts.com because they seem too high priced. I was checking out different websites and I ended up finding a great deal at 4wheelonline.com. Don't know if you've ever heard of them but if you check out the link I have, you'll notice I paid about $1600 for my items (3in. PA body lift, 4 Mudd grapplers -35/12.50 R20) ; and the shipping was only 12 bucks! That's about 200 bucks less than I would've pad at 4wheelparts.

I always knew Bilstein was a top of the line product but wasn't aware of Rancho. I thought it was a company comparable to Pro Comp. Anyway I'll probably end up getting the Rough Country shocks from Topguncustomz or save up and get a set of Ranchos. Is it possible to get the ones that say 4" lift in the front or will they be too long? The only other option is with 0-1" in the front and I feel that will be too short. Does the body lift count as a lift in the front? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
