Stock Infinity Head Unit Issues
I have a 2005 Dodge 2500 truck with the stock inifinity 6 cd player head unit. Supposedly its soo good...well for the first few years, now the cd mode wont even come up as a option. It just goes from am to fm and thats all. Anyone out there have this problem yet? Know a fix? Or simply make it a new tire chaulk....JUNK! Also i was told that with the stock infinity system you cant install a aftermarket cd player because it will burn up the stock amplifier and then the speakers wont work?!?! WTF! Let me know if anyones got a fix..thanks.
Welcome to the world of electronics where just because its new or even reputable doesnt mean it works forever.
As xfeejayx said, him and lots of guys run aftermarket HUs with the Infinity system so do like myself and others did and replace it all.

I put in a new head unit and left the stock amp in there because i haven't had a chance to dissemble the whole passenger side of the dash to run new speaker wires to the new amp. My experiences with scosch (people that make the wiring harness) say that it's not possible to turn the factory amp on. I proved them otherwise.
The sound quality, however, is terrible. The audio has distortion to it. I am using speaker level out of the new unit because line level is way to low for the stock amp. I wouldn't be surprised if my amp exploded tomorrow because of how crappy it is. If you do end up going that route, don't count of using the stock amp. It sucks anyways.

I have an 07 QC with the infinity w/o nav. I want to put my pioneer head unit in because it controls my ipod. The FM reception sucks though. What can i do I don't have the money for the 5 ch Infinity Kappa amp I want to redo the system at the moment. I need a for now solution. Do I need to buy one of the integration harnesses and which one or can I wire it myself with high level inputs an a wiring diagram. I have searched this forum for a couple weeks and have found a lot of answers but am confused. Thank you for you help and again sorry to hijack the thread

Get a harness then wire it like normal. speaker + to speaker + and etc... make sure you get the amp remote turn on as well. Their harness wires are all labeled correctly. From what I understand, you have about a 50/50 chance of it turning the factory amp on. If it works, I can not guarantee how long it will last as it will be over loading the input on the factory amp. If you don't push it it should last awhile. There is audible distortion in the output though. That may or may not be harming your speakers. Or, you could go a different route and bypass the amp all together, which would be a better solution. Only problem with bypassing the factory amp is then you loose all your crossovers and eq's. That means your door speakers will by pumping out the full spectrum instead of just the bass. This 2nd method would more than likely sound worse then the 1st, even with the distortion.

I have a '97 with the Infinity system, which sucked, but the amps were built onto each speaker. I also have an '04 QC with the Infinity, from the sounds of it, have these newer systems got a seperate amp that I am not aware of?
I've never been too enthused with Infinity, I replaced the system in my older truck and this one will when it craps out.
